Job Description

Role Title: Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) Occupational Health

Role Location: Base will be Vhi Waverley Business Park Naas Road Dublin 12 but must be willing to travel to provide OH service in our Nationwide clinics
A full-time 12-month fixed term maternity leave position has arisen within Vhi for a clinical nurse specialist (CNS) Occupational Health. The scope of this post will support the provision of quality occupational health services to our Vhi colleagues throughout our nationwide network from clinical healthcare colleagues to those working in office-based environments.
The Occupational Health Nurse will work alongside the existing occupational health team to provide Occupational Health service and to further advance the development of the Vhi Occupational Health Services.

Role Purpose
  • Conduct occupational health assessments consistent with international best practice and relevant legislation.
  • Oversee the full range of occupational health services including but is not limited to Pre-employment medicals on site immunization programmes case management and health surveillance programmes.
  • As part of a multidisciplinary team assess and advise on workplace hazards and risks.
  • Support the Occupational Health team in reviewing and developing occupational health service delivery.
  • Participating in quality improvement
  • Maintaining Occupational health procedures
  • Health and wellbeing programme
  • Liaising with other professionals as part of a multidisciplinary team


Education & Experience
  • Be a registered general nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland
  • Relevant degree level or equivalent qualification in occupational health or related discipline.
  • 2 years post registration experience in Occupatioanl Health.
  • Have the ability to practice safely and effectively fulfilling his/her professional responsibility within his/her scope of practice.
  • Demonstrate evidence of continuing professional development.
  • Must possess the requisite knowledge and ability including a high standard of suitability and clinical managerial and administration capacity to properly discharge the functions of the role.
  • Clean driving licence

Skills and Abilities
  • IT skills: Proficiency in MS Word excel and powerpoint
  • Experience working within a multidisciplinary team and key stakeholders involved in Occupational Health service provision.
  • Compedencey in Occupational Health case management
  • Demonstrate involvement in quality.
  • Demonstrate alignment with Vhi Values.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Effective planning and organisation skills with awareness of optimal resource management and evidence-based decision making
