About the Role

Reporting to the Operations Supervisor of HWSTS and under the direction of the GM the incumbent is responsible for providing student transportation route planning maintenance auditing and information services in addition to supporting the functions and initiatives of the Hamilton-Wentworth Student Transportation Services (HWSTS) consortium. Additionally the successful applicant will respond to inquiries from the public regarding transportation policy eligibility and receiving all conflicts arising from dissatisfied parties.

DUTIES

  • Plan optimize and review school bus runs and bus routes to ensure safety and efficiency.
  • Monitor all assigned routes and audit for compliance and safety. Perform route optimizations utilizing the HWSTS planning software applications and implement accordingly.
  • Evaluate HWSTS day-to-day operations and identify inconsistencies and opportunities.
  • Assist with performing route audits and vehicle inspections when required.
  • Provide support to the consortium; generate reports from the planning software to assist with analysis of KPI and other initiatives.
  • Assist in emergency situations and special assignments.
  • Coordinate the dissemination of route information to principals parents students and service providers in a timely and reliable fashion.
  • Monitor evaluate and recalibrate transportation software to ensure on-going reliance of outputs.
  • Promptly review and respond to concerns from parents school staff and service providers and take appropriate action within policy and procedural limits.
  • Professionally liaise with all HWSTS stakeholders including students parents service providers principals and local communities while maintaining appropriate confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • 2-year College Diploma in Transportation Planning GIS or equivalent combination of education and related experience may be considered.
  • Applied knowledge of creating efficient safe and cost-effective transportation route design and maintenance.
  • Ability to utilize student transportation operations knowledge to collaborate in a team environment and create safe and effective solutions for stakeholders within the parameters of existing policies and procedures.
  • Excellent knowledge of the Hamilton-Wentworth region and comprehensive understanding of student transportation operations are considered an asset.
  • Ability to research interpret apply and communicate approved Board policies & procedures.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with a customer service focus combined with conflict resolution skills to respond to issues and concerns that at times can be elevated and emotionally charged.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in producing accurate information and in responding to inquiries.
  • Skilled in effectively utilizing a variety of computer software including MS Office Suite Internet and web-based map addition the position requires knowledge of standard office equipment and the ability to learn new technologies
  • Working knowledge of HWSTS routing software applications. Preference will be given to experience working with BusPlanner
  • Administrative skills including the ability to recognize priorities organizational skills ability to work accurately with a high attention to detail and the ability to multitask in a high volume fast paced environment.
  • Strong intercultural communication skills and excellent customer service skills to serve clients who have diverse cultural backgrounds and whose first language is not English
  • 2 years of experience in a comparable student transportation operations an asset
