Job Description

Job Title: School Counselor (Elementary K5)
Location: Sterling VA 20165
Contract Duration: 44 Weeks
Shift: Monday Friday 7:15 AM 2:45 PM
Rate: $45.00/hour

Job Description:

We are seeking a compassionate and student-focused Elementary School Counselor to support the academic social and emotional growth of students in grades K5. The School Counselor will collaborate with teachers parents and administrators to promote a safe inclusive and supportive learning environment. The ideal candidate will be dedicated to guiding young learners addressing individual needs and fostering positive behavior and mental well-being.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide individual and group counseling to students on academic personal and social issues

  • Develop and implement age-appropriate guidance lessons to support student growth

  • Assist students in developing problem-solving conflict resolution and coping skills

  • Collaborate with teachers administrators and parents to identify student needs and provide appropriate interventions

  • Support students facing behavioral challenges academic struggles or personal difficulties

  • Create a safe and welcoming environment that encourages self-expression and learning

  • Participate in student support teams IEP meetings and other school-based interventions as needed

  • Refer students and families to external support services when necessary

  • Maintain accurate and confidential student records in compliance with district and state policies

  • Promote positive school climate by implementing programs that encourage inclusivity respect and kindness

Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in School Counseling or related field

  • Valid state certification/licensure as a School Counselor

  • Experience working with elementary-age students preferred

  • Strong interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to work collaboratively with educators families and community resources
