The Senior Product Development Engineer leverages scientific and engineering principles to lead the development of innovative confectionery-based Over-the-Counter (OTC) drug and supplement products. This role involves managing complex projects from concept to commercialization while fostering collaboration with cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate will exhibit a strong inquisitive nature and apply scientific methodologies to create robust line-ready formulations independently. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential for success in this fast-paced environment as is the ability to mentor junior scientists in product formulation and manufacturing processes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Conduct research identifying novel delivery forms for confections dietary supplements and pharmaceutical active ingredients.
• Conceptualize and develop new product prototype at bench.
• Manage project timing milestones and resources between Operations Quality Assurance (QA) Purchasing and Marketing (project management). Create and adhere to Innovation portion of commercialization timelines and communications between the project team and the organization.
• Conduct plant trials and product start-ups managing timing and resources between Operations QA Purchasing and Marketing.
• Craft and maintain documentation to ensure the consistent manufacture of new products including batch records production instructions validation and stability protocols. Work with QA to ensure all product documentation is written stored and approved for commercial manufacture including material specifications material certificates of analysis (CoAs) product specifications cleaning requirements method validations and packaging specifications.
• Prepare technical reports for submission to management and diligently document all laboratory and experimental activities within a lab notebook or project binder. Occasionally prepare and presents project status or technical presentations to external clients or internally for SCN BestCos management.
• Proactively seek ways to mentor and train new partners and junior scientists.
• Keep abreast on ingredients and technologies in areas of flavor color texture and nutrition through literature reviews; technical meetings and seminars; and through professional contacts.
• Develop new and improved methods and systems for food processing production quality control packaging and distribution.
• Study methods to improve quality of foods such as flavor color texture nutritional value convenience or physical chemical and microbiological composition of foods.
• Lead problem-solving initiatives and resolve project issues as they arise.

Required Qualifications

Education and Experience:

• Bachelors degree in food science chemical engineering biomedical engineering or related field.
• 6 years experience in product development or food science engineering.

Ability to read analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals financial reports and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers regulatory agencies or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management public groups and/or boards of directors.
• Must be able to demonstrate critical problem solving and trouble shooting skills. Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas scientific equations graphs musical notes etc.) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

Preferred Qualifications

• Masters degree in a relevant field
• Experience formulating and commercializing dietary supplements and/or drug products.
• Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software (i.e. SAP etc.) Product Lifecyle Management (PLM) software (i.e. Workfront Agile etc.) and/or statical software (Minitab Statgraphics etc.) with the ability to interpret data.
• Working knowledge of cGMP requirements.
• Experience with regulatory bodies including FDA and NSF.
