Legal Action Chicago is a close partner with Legal Aid Chicago the Midwests largest provider of free civil legal services to people who are living in poverty. We work closely with the advocates at Legal Aid Chicago and with community groups to identify the most pressing policy and systemic issues affecting low-income families with a special focus on racial equity. We litigate class actions pursue legislative and administrative initiatives and undertake other forms of community-based policy advocacy to effect systemic changes. Learn more about our work at .
Our work is not limited to one issue area or advocacy method. For example Legal Action Chicago has used a variety of litigation and policy advocacy tools to tackle issues ranging from harmful public housing rent policies to protection of family finances from creditors to protecting people in abusive relationships and much more. Our work spans the subject matter of all of Legal Aid Chicagos practice groups (Children & Families Consumer Housing Immigrants & Workers Rights Pro Bono & Community Partnerships and Public Benefits) and we welcome applicants who have cross-cutting interests and experiences.
Legal Action Chicago has a small staff of four attorneys plus government relations contractors. It purchases all back office functions from Legal Aid Chicago. But it has a growing need for administrative capacity including record-keeping development activities social media and calendar maintenance. It is a collegial and cooperative atmosphere and a hybrid approach allowing a substantial portion of work time to be remote.
Position: Legal Action Chicago seeks a part-time (60%) Administrative Assistant. The position could expand to more time as the organization grows.

The budgeted salary range for this position is $26143.80-$29427.60 which reflects 0-10 years of paid credited experience.

We seek someone with experience and capacity for basic computerized record-keeping and communications organizational ability and social media skills. Preferred but not required are development experience graphic art skills and language skills. The successful applicant will be collegial well-organized and supportive of our mission.
