Job Summary

Job Title: Medical Laboratory Technician

Location: Keesler Medical Center Keesler AFB Biloxi MS 39534

Work Schedule: Monday Friday 40 hours per week; 8Hrs Shift (0with 1-hour lunch). May include variable shifts during blood drives (0) to meet mission needs.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Associates degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or related science field from an accredited institution.

  • Experience:

    • At least 1 year of full-time experience within the past 24 months as a Medical Laboratory Technician in a clinical laboratory accredited by a CMS-approved body (CAP COLA AABB DNV TJC etc.).

    • Experience with routine specimen processing phlebotomy and laboratory testing.

  • License/Certification:

    • National certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (ASCP or AMT).

    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through AHA or ARC.

    • Valid Mississippi State Class D Light Commercial Drivers License (must be obtained within 3 months of employment).

  • Other Requirements: Must be a U.S. Citizen.

Responsibilities:

  • Collect prepare and analyze biological specimens (blood urine and other body fluids) under supervision of a Medical Laboratory Technologist or Pathologist.

  • Perform routine clinical laboratory procedures in hematology chemistry urinalysis microbiology and immunology.

  • Operate maintain and calibrate laboratory instruments and equipment; perform daily quality control checks.

  • Record verify and report test results accurately and in compliance with CLIA CAP and DoD standards.

  • Prepare specimens for reference laboratories when required.

  • Assist in whole blood collection and donor processing for the Armed Services Blood Program.

  • Ensure proper labeling storage and chain of custody of all specimens and blood products.

  • Adhere to strict infection control safety protocols and regulatory requirements.

  • Provide training support and mentorship to phlebotomy staff and junior laboratory personnel.

  • Participate in proficiency testing and continuous quality improvement programs.
