Amazon Web Services (AWS) is currently hiring for an Engineering Technician to support our data centers. The Engineering Technician will help ensure overall availability and reliability to meet or exceed defined service levels of data center operations.

The Data Center Engineering Technician will be responsible for ensuring the overall operation and maintenance of all electrical mechanical and HVAC equipment within the data center. This equipment supports mission-critical servers and must maintain better than 99.99% uptime. The Data Center Engineering Technician will continue to maintain high reliability and performance while keeping operating costs in facilities at a minimum.

Engineering Technicians are Amazons front line when it comes to hands-on electrical and mechanical equipment troubleshooting. They will maintain operate and troubleshoot Data Center Operations Mission Critical Facilities which includes stand-by diesel generators and related fuel systems as well as three phase electrical systems such as: switch gear UPSs PDUs wet cell batteries and associated systems CRAC centrifugal chillers cooling towers/water chemical system air handlers and associated systems pumps & motors.

Key job responsibilities
Responsibilities:
Supervise contractors who perform servicing or preventive maintenance
Perform limited maintenance tasks to include: filter changes battery system PMs and Rack PDU & Rack ATS replacements
Perform root cause analysis for operational issues
Troubleshoot facility and rack level events
Ensure all personnel on-site follow safety protocols
Work on-call and a rotating schedule as needed
Take daily operational readings and provide metrics reporting to senior engineers
Perform basic support concepts such as ticketing systems root cause analysis and task prioritization

A day in the life
- Tasked with driving innovation while reducing operational costs in the facilities
- Drive projects with moderate complexity
- Assist in troubleshooting of facility and rack-level events within internal Service Level Agreements (SLA)
- Perform rack installs rack decommissioning operational readings and facility management
- Provide key performance indicators to senior engineers
- Responsible for the on-site management of contractors sub-contractors and vendors ensuring that all work performed is in accordance with established practices procedures & local legislation
- Performance and oversight of maintenance and operations on all electrical mechanical and fire/life safety equipment within the data center
- Ensure all safety procedures are adhered to while performing work
- Perform basic support concepts such as ticketing systems root cause analysis change management creation writing procedures and building management systems
- Work schedule changes depending on specific site needs. Shifts can be up to 12-hours and may rotate on a predefined schedule. Some sites have on-call rotations.
- Maintain data center critical infrastructure equipment ensuring 99.99% uptime of the worlds largest cloud computing portfolio
- Role may support more than one location/site

- Technical (Military/Trade School) training or 2 years of electrical or mechanical HVAC fire system experience in a mission-critical infrastructure or equivalent experience in a relevant industry (for example: electrical or mechanical) 2 years of electrical or mechanical experience
- 2 years experience with Microsoft Office products (including Excel Word and PowerPoint)
- High school or equivalent diploma

- 4 years of Data Center Engineering Experience
- Associates or Bachelors in applicable engineering field or mechanical or electrical trades
- Fundamental knowledge of network design and layout as well as low voltage (copper/ fiber) cabling
- Meets/exceeds Amazons leadership principles requirements for this role
- Meets/exceeds Amazons functional/technical depth and complexity

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $68300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $152700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge skills and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
