Advanced Quality Engineer
Full-Time
Columbia SC
Compensation DOE: Up to $125K
Seeking an experienced Advanced Quality Engineer for a 50-yr old Tier 1 and aftermarket supplier of fuel management systems to the automotive industry. This role can either be located near Jacksonville NC or just north of Columbia SC.
The(AQE) plays a critical role in ensuring that products meet internal and customer-specific quality standards from the early development phases through production launch. This position is responsible for developing and implementing quality strategies facilitating advanced product quality planning (APQP) and serving as the key liaison between engineering manufacturing and the customer regarding product quality.
Advanced Quality Engineer Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the APQP process for new product launches and engineering changes.
- Develop and maintain quality documentation including Process Flow Diagrams PFMEAs Control Plans and PPAPs.
- Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams to ensure product designs and processes meet quality objectives.
- Coordinate and conduct dimensional functional and capability studies.
- Serve as the primary customer contact for quality-related issues during pre-production and launch phases.
- Identify root causes and implement corrective actions for quality issues using problem-solving methodologies (e.g. 8D 5-Why Fishbone).
- Support continuous improvement activities and Lean manufacturing initiatives related to product quality.
- Ensure compliance with IATF 16949 ISO 9001 and customer-specific requirements.
- Conduct supplier quality assessments as needed in support of new programs.
- Track monitor and report on KPIs including PPM First Time Quality (FTQ) and warranty returns.
Advanced Quality Engineer Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Engineering or related technical field preferred with a minimum of 35 years of experience in quality engineering within the automotive industry. Key experience includes:
- Strong knowledge of APQP PPAP FMEA MSA and SPC.
- Familiarity with GD&T and reading technical drawings.
- Experience with customer portals (e.g. GM Ford Stellantis) is preferred.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and project management abilities.
- Certification such as CQE (Certified Quality Engineer) is a plus.
