The Healing Lodge ofthe Seven Nations is a youth residential treatment facility which provides asafe and caring healing environment for adolescents in need. Located on 51acres our wellness program provides a peaceful environment for treatmentbalanced in traditional cultural and spiritual values and practices. Thesevalues and practices foster respect honesty generosity strong cultural identificationand hope for positive life changes. TheHealing Lodge treatment program integrates traditional spiritual and culturalvalues with chemical dependency and mental health counseling to create acomprehensive approach toward include both Native American and non-Native from all areas ofthe country.
About the Position
TheLead Teacher and Teacher of Record oversees the HL7N educational program forresidents under the general direction of the PSSD Director with assistancefrom appropriate staff personnel and per the Educational CooperativeAlternative Learning Agreement with Spokane Public School (SPS). A classroom teachsupervise and enhances an effective learning environment; facilitates the learningwith SPS adopted assessments curriculum and instructional materials;establishes learning objectives and standards based upon general HL7Nguidelines; provides instruction documents learning via WA State AlternativeLearning Experience (ALE) guidelines counsels disciplines and supervises tomeet the individual needs of assigned residents; and to evaluate studentperformance and progress.
EssentialDuties and Responsibilities include the following:
Fosters a safe educationalenvironment conducive to the learning process; plans an instructional programdesigned to meet individual resident needs and whole groups which include atrisk or special needs youth.
Uses necessary andappropriate instructional methods and materials which are suited to thewell-being of the residents and to the nature of the learning activitiesprogram and/or curriculum involved; implements established program orcurriculum objectives; attends in-service training and continues to improveprofessional growth through study and experimentation to remain current inmethods and techniques for instruction.
Establishes and implementsin a positive and supportive manner classroom management policies andprocedures governing resident behavior and conduct; provides guidance and supportto encourage residents to progress across a mastery-based and ALE learningframework.
Confers with residents andother staff maintaining an open positive relationship as appropriate toprovide guidance and evaluation and to encourage resident achievement andpost-secondary planning.
Establishes classroom goalsand objectives in conformation with courses of study specified by Statestatutes regulations and guidelines; evaluates and records student progress;prepares reports for local state and federal compliance purposes.
Collects and interprets avariety of data; provides reports for administrative purposes.
Attends or participates inall required staff meetings and training deemed necessary by the HL7N and/orPSSD Director to accomplish the objectives of the position and for professionalachievement.
Serves on staff committees as required.
Participates in a variety of activities toenhance personal and professional skills.
Performs related tasks consistent with the scopeand responsibility of the position.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
Thisposition has no supervisory responsibilities.
Education and/or Experience:
Bachelors degree in Education with aWashington State Teacher Certification.
Minimum of 3 years of experienceteaching grades 6-12 struggling students and/or academic interventionexpertise.
Academic preparation for or experiencein teaching a culturally racially and economically diverse student population.
Being a cooperative member of schoolmultidisciplinary team for the development of instructional and behavioralgoals that support struggling students across a continuum of services andinstructional needs.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Secondary Math or English credential.
Proficiency with education technologiesused for instruction and assessment such as Apex Lexia Dreambox KahnAcademy and NWEA MAP.
Knowledge of Washington StateAlternative Learning Experience (ALE) requirements.
Well versed in Special Education law studentaccommodations providing students with resources and reporting requirement perWA ALE Guidelines.
Trauma-informed teacher.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Knowledgeof: Subject areas appropriate to assignment; effective behavior managementtechniques; effective instructional techniques; high school and beyondplanning; rules and procedures for student safety.
Skill in:Proficiency in reading writing and oral communication; effectivecommunication with residents care team and guardians in a diverse community;designing and implementing lesson plans for students having a wide range of academiclevels from elementary through high school.
Abilityto: Deal with students in a positive and confident manner; be fair andconsistent when working with a culturally racially and economically diversestudent population; adapt to change and remain flexible; organize activities;manage student behavior; use good judgement to maintain a safe learningenvironment; provide instruction and demonstrate techniques; use necessaryequipment computers or software; direct assistants; in some positionsadminister first aid and CPR; establish and maintain effective positiveworking relationships with students staff and administrators.

Must have a current drivers license with a safedriving record.
Working Conditions:
Required to deal witha wide range of student achievement and behavior; required to remain flexibleto meet resident immediate needs; required to handle multiple taskssimultaneously and prioritize; may experience frequent interruptions; mayoccasionally deal with distraught or dysregulated residents; potentiallyexposed to ordinary infectious diseases carried by students; may teach in aclassroom without telephone communication.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here arerepresentative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully performthe essential functions of this performing the duties of this Job the employee is regularlyrequired to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally required to liftand/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee is regularly required to stand andwalk for extended periods of time occasionally standing or climbing on a stoolor ladder. Must be able to use hands to finger handle or feel; bend stoopor kneel; reach with hands and arms in any direction; talk and hear. Specificvision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability toadjust focus. You must be available to work flexible hours.
