The Dean of Teaching and Learning provides leadership in the development implementation and coordination of Atlantis Charter Schools instructional program. The Dean of Teaching and Learning also ensures educators are supported in developing clear learning standards instructional objectives and formative and summative assessments. The Dean of Teaching and Learning in conjunction with the Principal is responsible for coordinating a highly effective instructional program with clear programmatic transitions between grade levels. Also the Dean of Teaching and Learning is committed to the Atlantis Charter School Board of Trustees policies regarding equity human rights and cross cultural understanding and reports directly to the Principal or their designee.

POSITION: DEAN OF TEACHING AND LEARNING
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelors Degree required Masters Degree in Education preferred. Related years of experience may be substituted for education requirement.
- Valid Teacher License recognized by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education or evidence of eligibility to obtain such licensure within one year of employment preferred. License in education administration preferred.
- 3-4 years prior administrative/instructional/curriculum leadership experience in an urban and/or charter school setting strongly preferred.
- Must possess in-depth knowledge of Massachusetts standards and curriculum delivery models.
- Strong communication skills both written and spoken.
- Ability to relate well to others.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
While actual roles and responsibilities will vary depending on individual circumstances the Dean of Teaching and Learning will generally be required to perform some or all of the following tasks. Note that this list is not all-inclusive and that the administrator may also assign other tasks they deem appropriate.
- Tracks alignment of curriculum and instruction to scope and sequence and district curriculum planning.
- Identifies professional development needs and develops/facilitates professional development sessions as they relate to teaching learning assessments and curriculum.
- Supervises curriculum writing and assists in providing teachers with professional development ongoing review evaluation and continuous improvement of curriculum writing
- Develops and leads implementation of research-based standards-based pedagogical practices and methods.
- Review curricula lesson plans classroom practice for relevant indicators of a standards based classroom and provides regular feedback to educators.
- Works with teachers to ensure assessments measure student understanding of standards are differentiated and promote critical thinking.
- Provides leadership for content teams to evaluate effectiveness of curricular professional development and instructional programs and/or initiatives.
- Assesses current educational methods and programs for effectiveness and researches and recommends methods/programs and professional development to improve academic achievement.
- Facilitates small and large group curriculum development meetings.
- Conducts informal and formal observations of teachers and paraprofessionals in order to support teacher development
- Develops and maintains coaching relationships with educators based on level need up to and including leading performance improvement plans
- Provides frequent constructive feedback to teachers and paraprofessionals based on classroom observations and other indicators of performance.
- Conducts formal performance evaluations of teachers and paraprofessionals utilizing district evaluation tool.
- Researches models and assists staff in implementing effective instructional strategies.
- Maintains up to date knowledge of MCAS regulations and mandates and disseminates needed information to staff
- Assists Principal in maintaining oversight of grade-wide or school-wide assessment tools planning and results. (i.e. STAR MCAS etc.).
- Supports MTSS program which may include attendance at meetings assisting in developing instructional intervention strategies and helping to facilitate effective transitions through tiered interventions as it relates to instruction and curriculum.
- Supports with the collection of and tracking of student data.
- Collects data on student achievement and works to identify gaps of instruction resources and logistics/management as a means for improving curriculum and instruction and making programmatic decisions.
- Assists teachers in effectively analyzing student data from a number of sources to drive instruction and assessment.
- Works closely with Principal and other staff including special education ELL and title to support school improvement initiatives and processes.
- Maintains a close working relationship with school-based and ACS district-level administrators to insure information exchange coordination of efforts and general support for the decision-making process.
- Supports educators in utilizing technology in the delivery of instruction that supports teaching and student learning at all levels.
- Supports Principal in executing logistical and operational tasks regarding the Upper School

- Use technology effectively and develop technological skills to enhance and pursue work objectives.
- Use a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information collaborative efforts and feedback.
- Work effectively as a member of the district administrative team in carrying out district wide responsibilities. Assist in the establishment and accomplishment of district-wide goals objectives and related responsibilities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

EVALUATION
Evaluation of the Dean of Teaching and Learning will be conducted by the Principal
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
12 month position.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Ability to walk sit and stand for long periods. Regularly uses computer keyboard requiring eye-hand coordination and finger dexterity. Will need to travel between school buildings.
