The Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre (IDMC)is the worlds leading sourceof data and analysis on internal displacement. IDMCs Capacity Strengthening Coordinator supports the Capacity Strengthening Manager in coordinating technical support to governments and other institutions in countries experiencing internal displacement. The coordinator oversees efforts to identify assess and propose options to improve data and information on internal displacement available at country and sub-national level as well as systems and methods for data collection and analysis. S/he is also responsible for ensuring that lessons learnt and good practices relating to internal displacement data and systems are captured at the country level as applicable. S/he is expected to undertake significant travel to countries to develop partnerships oversee technical support activities and ensure adequate follow-up with in-country partners.
What you will do:

The main roles and responsibilities for this position are:
- Through in-person and virtual interviews and consultations as well as remote and desk-based analysis undertake assessments of national data systems on internal displacement identifying available data sources producers publishers and users potential gaps and areas for improvement. Work closely with identified partners in country and develop road maps for the improvement of national data systems on internal displacement outlining timeline roles and responsibilities and resources required.
- Document and disseminate lessons learnt from these processes at the national regional and global level through workshops public events and publications.
- Advise government and other in-country partners on how to develop and integrate internal displacement objectives and indicators into operational frameworks to ensure the effective measurement and monitoring of displacement risk as well as progress towards durable solutions;
- Socialise through trainings and workshops with partners the value and practical applications of nationally owned displacement data systems and the importance of collecting analysing reporting and using better data to inform more impactful interventions.
- Document new and completed requests for technical support and liaise internally in IDMC to identify how to utilise internal resources to address such requests and connect countries to relevant resources within IDMC and the wider displacement data community.
- Develop and deliver training on internal displacement data building on IDMCs expertise and examples of successful initiatives from around the world for audiences at the national regional and global levels;
- Represent IDMC before partners at the national and regional level and in public events;
- Upon request contribute written inputs to IDMC products featuring good practices or lessons learnt on internal displacement data systems including the Global Report on Internal Displacement the Global Repository of Good Practices the Internal Displacement Index Report regional reports and more;
- Contribute to relevant technical inputs into fundraising proposals to support the continuity and development of this area of work;
- Perform other duties in the organisation as appropriate

What you will bring:
IDMC is looking for a flexible and innovative Capacity Support Coordinator with the ability to make large and/or complex data more accessible understandable and usable. The successful candidate will possess excellent skills in data management and visualisation (tools and methods). In addition we are looking for someone with minimum five years of experience in internal displacement data collection analysis or management or a related field as well as an in-depth knowledge and understanding of displacement data management systems and key metrics including IDMC data and systems;
In addition you will have:
- Masters degree in geography Environmental Science international affairs displacement migration humanitarian or development studies information science or related field;
- Excellent communication skills and ability to represent the organisation at senior technical and political levels;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and in at least one additional language;
- Flexible innovative and effective in working collaboratively as part of a multicultural team.
- Proven experience engaging with high level technical and political actors at the national regional and global levels;
- Experience developing capacity strengthening and training materials for specialist and non-specialist audiences;
- Fundraising experience an advantage;
- Proven networking and relationship management skills;
- Demonstrated commitment and passion about the issue of internal displacement;
- Experience working in a fast-paced environment and successfully delivering on short deadlines.
