Job Description

Position #22616:Transportation Dispatcher

This is an Off Schedule (non-bargaining) position

Posting Dates: 08/28/2025 09/04/2025 (Or Until Filled)

Location:Transportation

Hours:8 hours per day 260 days per year

JOB DESCRIPTION

The person in this position will be answering and making calls to/from parents translating routing information assisting with student management issues or concerns and dispatching information to addition substitute bus driving or attending when necessary create and revise routes utilizing a routing program and data entry. Other job-related duties may be assigned by management as necessary.

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge skill and/or ability required.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  1. AA degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school in a related field. Experience in the school bus industry may be substituted.
  2. Must present transcripts of highest level of education within thirty (30) days of hire.
  3. Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
  4. Must be able to meet the Physical Demands of the position.
  5. Must pass a basic skills test.
  6. Completion of Safe Schools Web Based Training within thirty (30) days of hire and yearly thereafter.
  7. Must pass a background check which includes employee paid fingerprinting.
  8. Must have flexible hours between 4:45am-5:30pm.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

  1. Class B CDL Passenger School Bus endorsement with air brake restriction removed.
  2. Ability to read and interpret road maps. Test may be given.
  3. Demonstrated accuracy and proficiency of computer skills using Word and Excel. Test will be given. Minimum 80% proficiency required.
  4. Ability to adapt to various computer including routing software programs.
  5. Positive recommendations and job performance evaluations.
  6. Excellent ability to organize and maintain records.
  7. Evidence of excellent conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.
  8. Evidence of ability to work under pressure and also continue to perform all daily tasks required of this position.
  9. Evidence of ability to maintain cooperative and effective communication with administrators students parents public and department employees.
  10. Ability to read comprehend and analyze technical documents manuals and state reports.
  11. Ability to communicate clearly and rationally using the two-way radio and/or telephone.
  12. Evidence of excellent attendance.
  13. Evidence of ability to do accurate work despite frequent distractions and interruptions.
  14. Evidence of ability to maintain confidentiality.
  15. Demonstrated proficiency in office methods including excellent telephone etiquette use of various types of office equipment including faxing scanning copying etc.

QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED

  1. Knowledge of Special Education laws and student requirement.
  2. Knowledge of computerized transportation programs.
  3. Experience with PowerSchool.
  4. Bilingual.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Develops and regularly updates all routes and time schedules.
  2. Investigates and recommends solutions for overloaded routes. Implements solutions with supervisor approval.
  3. Assigns drivers to routes and extracurricular trips.
  4. Assigns substitute drivers and attendants as needed.
  5. Makes recommendation to supervisor for assignment of new drivers to open routes.
  6. Provides supervisor with confidential information regarding job performance of drivers attendants and substitutes.
  7. Keeps computer programs up to date.
  8. Answers bus trouble calls coordinates replacement buses drivers contacts appropriate authorities etc. to meet the needs of the transportation department.
  9. Investigates overdue and late vehicles.
  10. Communicates with building staffs administration and parents regarding bus concerns.
  11. Advises building officials of route changes bus changes late arrivals and departures etc.
  12. Assists in preparing the school years route schedule for publication to district residents and schools.
  13. Assists in planning and presenting staff development programs.
  14. Assists the district in boundary analysis.
  15. Confers with parents and staff regarding student problems.
  16. Maintains a high level of confidentiality.
  17. Responds to emergency situations utilizing District procedures.
  18. Secures premises at beginning and/or end of shift.
  19. May be required to drivevarious bus routes as needed.
