Job Summary
The TDM Data Analysis Intern will support data analysis work in the Citys Transportation Demand Management (TDM) program including the Choose Your Way Bellevue public-facing travel options program to promote use of non-drive-alone transportation options. If time and interest allow the Intern may additionally support program planning marketing and outreach activities within the TDM program.
Internship Anticipated Work Schedule and Duration:
Approximately 15-20 hours per week starting in late September through the end of 2025.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Transportation Planning Intern will be assigned primarily to data research collection analysis and reporting tasks and potentially additional tasks that will require communication outreach process and project management skills. Assignments may include:
- Analyzes of data from the state Commute Trip Reduction program and U.S. Census American Community Survey Means of Transportation to Work to determine performance of the TDM program.
- Collect compile and analyze data points on travel mode usage such as transit ridership and trip logging data.
- As time allows review additional data sources for travel mode behavior such as the Puget Sound Household Travel Survey the National Household Travel Survey etc.
- Compile and analyze metrics on TDM and Choose Your Way Bellevue program participation including transit passes distributed employer/property manager program participation etc.
- Combine data analysis with communication skills to present data in readable and understandable formats including charts graphs tables and narratives.
- Utilize results of data compilation and analysis to update a TDM program progress report White Paper on TDM Program Measurement creation of a CTR Data Dashboard and other potential presentation vehicles for TDM program data.
Potential Additional Tasks
- Maintaining and/or improving data-related content on the Citys TDM website.
- If time permits supporting city staff in the implementation of the Citys 2024-2033 Transportation Demand Management Plan.
- Participating in meetings with TDM implementation partner organizations.
- Contributing as appropriate to efforts that integrate TDM into other transportation and citywide initiatives.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will be actively enrolled full-time in an undergraduate or graduate degree-pursuing program in one of the following fields or in a related field:
- Transportation planning
- Urban planning
- Public policy and governance
- Public administration
- Political science
- Data science/analytics
The successful candidate will have the following characteristics and skills:
- Analytical skills including statistics and other mathematical methods for evaluating the relevance of various factors in the citys transportation demand management program performance.
- Quantitative analysis and data presentation skills including skill using Excel to conduct data analysis and produce charts/graphs.
- Excellent verbal written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidential and sensitive information.
- Ability to understand and follow directions.

Additionally desired qualifications include:
- General understanding of the concepts and techniques of transportation planning especially demand management.
- General understanding of communications social marketing project management and budgeting.
- Excel experience for database development purposes.
- Experience with Microsoft SharePoint.

Definition of Student Intern:
- Must be enrolled in a bona fide education program. Full time employees taking evening classes those enrolled in one course or those going to school periodically are not considered student interns.
- During the school year must be scheduled to work 20 hours or fewer per week.
- During special situations (i.e. specific internship programs through school) or during school breaks can be scheduled to work more than 20 hours up to full time if appropriate.
- Must be terminated as a student intern when no longer associated with an education program.
- At-will for the duration of the student intern status.
- Student Intern 3:Targeted degree field of interest or graduate training should relate to the projector assignment the student is responsible for.
