Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY
Under general supervision conducts training relative to repair maintenance operations and servicing of rapid transit cars and equipment at field locations and the central training facility for employees utilizing classroom sessions demonstrations and on-the-job instructions.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Researches maintenance manuals service bulletins or OSHA and related federally mandated legislation to develop training programs.
Conducts task analyses and interviews with technically knowledgeable personnel vendors and contractors and interacts with various supervisory personnel to obtain information to use in the development of training programs.
Creates course content lesson plans and instructor manuals reference materials learning aids and testing materials for training classes.
Conducts training sessions on the maintenance and repair of rapid transit cars computers electronics and equipment troubleshooting and analysis. Administers performance and written tests to assess training effectiveness. Supervises the training of students in shops and other work areas. Provides periodic instruction to management personnel.
Instructs terminal employees in the operation of rapid transit cars and other equipment and conducts initial and special training for employees and outside agencies.
Develops and administers evaluation surveys to evaluate the relevancy of training content and effectiveness of teaching methodologies and adds or modifies training as required.
May perform the duties of the Training Specialist.
Performs other duties as assigned.
CHALLENGES
Keeping abreast of technical and operational changes relative to Authority operations and designing effective training methods.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Associates degree or certification plus three (3) years of teaching/instruction experience or a combination of education and experience relating to this position.
Degree or certification and experience in a technical field are preferred.
Required to submit to and pass drug and alcohol testing as mandated by the Federal Transportation Administration for safety sensitive positions.
Must be able to obtain Rail Safety Training certification.
Must possess a valid State of Illinois Drivers License.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Required to travel to field locations subject to prevailing weather.
Required to occasionally work outdoors subject to prevailing weather.
Required to board and alight rail cars from grade level.
Required to stand bend stoop and kneel as necessary when conducting training near and under rail cars.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Working knowledge of training methodologies curriculum and test development and instructional delivery techniques tools and facilitation.
Working knowledge of hand and power tool safety.
Basic knowledge of the methods and procedures used in the repair and maintenance of CTA rail cars or similar equipment.
Basic knowledge of the electrical and mechanical equipment used on CTAs 5000-series rail cars or equipment.
Basic knowledge in at least one of the following areas: computer network troubleshooting and analysis IGBT power electronics troubleshooting and analysis hydraulics theory and application or communications technology (voice over IP analog-digital conversion and video).
Strong verbal and written communication skills. Good analytical and problem solving skills.
Basic skills using Microsoft Office software.
Basic math skills including working with fractions decimals and percentages.
Ability to read schematic drawing.
Ability to operate audio-visual and other equipment used in presenting training.
Ability to work with confidential and sensitive information.
WORKING CONDITIONS
General office environment.
Occasionally required to work in terminals shops and various field locations.
Subject to working adjacent to moving trains and power rails energized with 600 volts. Required to work around rail cars and equipment that are energized with 600 volts inside the maintenance shops.
Required to work various hours days and locations.
EQUIPMENT TOOLS AND MATERIALS UTILIZED
Computer hand and power tools.
