Hiring Unit: Teaching & Learning (Marvin Duchow Music Library)

Job Title: MDML Student Library Services Assistant

Reports to: Associate Librarian

Hour of work: 12 hours

Hourly Rate: $16.20

Classification: AMUSE A

Duration: September 2 2025 December 24 2025

Position Summary:

Under the direction of a library staff member the student assists with the delivery of Library services during peak periods. Duties include circulating materials of various formats answering basic inquiries from users preparing audio/video equipment for circulation and contributing to the processing and organizing of library materials. Must be available on weekends. May be required to open and/or close the library and perform emergency evacuation procedures. Performs other supplementary tasks as assigned.


Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities:

Excellent knowledge of music and music materials preferably with some formal training. Knowledge of music score and recording formats and familiarity with audio and video equipment. Demonstrated organizational skills attention to detail and ability to clearly transmit and receive information. Must be user-focused and service-oriented. Demonstrated ability to cope with physical requirements: handling carrying and lifting of library materials. Previous library or similar experience preferred. English: spoken read and written. French: spoken and read. McGill University is an English-language university where day-to-day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing. The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level # (3) on a scale of 0-4 Other languages an asset.
