About the Position
Are you passionate about protecting community health through strong immunization efforts Maricopa County Department of Public Health (MCDPH) is hiring an experienced public health professional to manage our CDC-funded Strengthening Vaccine-Preventable Disease Prevention & Response Grant and Programs therein.
In this leadership role youll oversee the MCDPH multiple vaccine programs and activities across Phoenix-based providers and help ensure the community receives lifesaving vaccines. Youll manage all aspects of these programs and team leadership. Youll work collaboratively with MCDPH leadership the Arizona Department of Health Services the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention tribal and school-based clinics the City of Phoenix and other MCDPH partners to improve vaccine access across Maricopa County.

We Require
- 5 years experience in an immunization program or related field
- 2 years of supervisory experience in a program management or compliance role
- Bachelors degree in public health healthcare administration or related field
- An equivalent combination of post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis
- Employee must have reliable transportation may have to travel to another location if coverage is needed.

- Masters degree in public health or related field
- Familiarity with CDCs VFC VFA IQIP requirements and ASIIS or similar state immunization registry
- Experience with federal grants CDC cooperative agreements and/or immunization management
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) skills are a plus
Job Contributions
- Direct develop coordinate and implement all strengthening vaccine-preventable disease prevention and response programs and activities-Vaccine for Children Program Vaccine for Adults Program Information Immunizations System Provider Vaccine Ordering Program CDC Vaccine Tracking System Immunization Quality Improvement for Providers Program Perinatal Hepatitis B Prevention Programand the Policy Evidence Assessment Reports. Establish operational goals objectives and program capacity and needs. Manage resource allocation and use. Ensure staff capacity and training. Oversee budgetary funding and expenditures
- Identify populations at riskfor vaccine-preventable diseases. Analyze vaccine coverage for local populations and identify vaccine deserts and conduct outreach. Plan for emergency preparedness and pandemics and participate in federal and state vaccine programs to ensure necessary resource allocation. Manage vaccine purchase and distribution according to CDC guidelines. Participate and contribute to CDC-led immunization-related meetings ensure readiness for technical site visits surveys and trainings
- Oversee and manage all regulatory requirements related to healthcare patient information vaccine management and fiscal guidelines. Lead annual provider compliance site visits. Investigate any vaccine misuse fraud or documentation issues. Maintain documentation and reports required by the CDC Arizona Department of Health Services and Maricopa County to ensure continuous audit readiness. Ensure the integrity and application of the National Centers of Immunization and Respiratory Diseases policy for the viability of the millions of dollars of federal vaccine inventory
- Oversee the recruitment and maintenance a network of public and privatehealthcarefacilitiesandproviders to administer vaccine to eligible adults and pediatric populations. Ensure the expansion of prenatal/maternal providers and birthing hospitals. Manage tribal community engagement and other hard-to-reach populations. Direct the enrollment of the new providers and ensure the establishment of a robust infrastructure to support these healthcare providers onboarding and training. Manger and ensure quality controls are in place so that providers follow proper vaccine handling documentation and storage protocols. Offer technical assistance and continued program development for optimal quality assurance to MCDPH providers. Oversee the multi-million-dollar vaccine orders systems their operation shipments and storage in collaboration with CDC and McKesson. Monitor cold chain logistics and ensure vaccine viability across the City of emergency planning for temperature excursions or supply issues
- Oversee the use of the Arizona State Immunization Information System (ASIIS) for data monitoring as well as the multiple vaccine management systems and their data to evaluate program effectiveness and develop strategies to ensure requirements and goals are met. Oversee the submission of required data to CDC and share results with internal and external partners. Improve vaccine access and coverage through targeted outreach and evaluation. Use qualitative and quantitative data to identify the population of focus to improve vaccine equity
- Oversee the maintenance and preparation of the multi-million dollar program budget. Research and administer funding and service expansion opportunities. Administer and direct sub-contracts and intergovernmental agreements with other agencies. Establish program budget priorities and ensure allocations are consistent with program needs
Working Conditions
- Must secure and maintain an Arizona Department of Public Safety Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card and complete a background check
- Must possess or have the ability to obtain by the time of hire a valid Arizona drivers license
- Within one month of hire all employees will be required to provide evidence of immunity or receive immunizations for vaccine-preventable illnesses for any position within the Maricopa County Department of Public Health; required immunizations include MMR (measles mumps rubella) Tdap (whooping cough and diphtheria) Varicella (chickenpox) and annual Influenza; some positions require a Hepatitis B vaccine and/or a Tuberculosis test
- Must be able to participate in emergency response training as scheduled and be available to respond as directed in the event of a public health emergency
- Exerting up to 20 lbs. occasionally 10 lbs. frequently or negligible amounts constantly OR requires walking or standing to a significant degree
- Position is typically office or administrative work and is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions
