Job Description

SEASPAR (the South East Association for Special Parks And Recreation) is a special recreation association providing year-round recreational programs and services to residents with disabilities in the following communities in Illinois: Brookfield Clarendon Hills Darien Downers Grove Indian Head Park La Grange La Grange Park Lemont Lisle Western Springs Westmont Willowbrook and Woodridge. SEASPAR offers year-round programming for all ages and all disabilities including: weekly social artistic cultural and fitness programs; special events and trips; Special Olympics training; adapted sports; multi-sensory rooms; and much more!

SEASPAR is currently seeking a compassionate driven and detail-oriented candidate for our Finance Specialist position which is responsible for assistance with bookkeeping duties including accounts payable and receivable bank reconciliation and related accounting functions.

Location and Schedule

The Finance Specialist works at the main SEASPAR office located at 4500 Belmont Road in Downers Grove. This is a non-exempt part-time position working 24 hours per week. Exact hours are flexible within the SEASPAR office hours.

Compensation

In exchange for your time and talent this position offers competitive compensation with a starting pay rate of $23 per hour. Other benefits include paid time off at a rate of one hour for every 40 hours worked with accrual capped at 40 hours of paid time off per 12-month period participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund pension plan and two work-from-home days per month.

Position Qualifications:

  • Minimum of two years of successful experience in a similar position.
  • Strong knowledge of computer-based software including financial software word processing spreadsheets and databases.
  • Knowledge of general computer skills and applications accounting and registration software (Sage/Peachtree and RecTrac experience desired).
  • General understanding of the theory purpose and practice of providing public recreation/special recreation services.
  • Must pass the pre-placement background check.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform all aspects of bookkeeping services including accounts receivable accounts payable deposits HR/payroll reports and financial records.
  • Reconcile monthly bank accounts procurement card charges and credit card payments and receipts.
  • Provide records for the annual audit.
  • Assist with petty cash receipts as needed.
  • Perform necessary public relation duties including greeting office visitors answering in-person inquiries and answering screening and channeling phone calls.
  • Purchase/maintain a complete stock of office supplies and organize supply room.
  • Sort and file materials as needed.
  • Attend appropriate staff meetings in-services and workshops.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
  • Must have regular and predictable on-site attendance.

  • The ability to understand complex instructions and solve problems related to the task.
  • The ability to be flexible in all aspects of job responsibility.
  • The knowledge and demonstration of proper safety measures regarding equipment and supplies.
  • The ability to demonstrate strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • The ability to perform all duties with an appropriate work ethic producing work as required and meeting deadlines as required.
  • The ability to maintain a clean and orderly work environment.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the key responsibilities of this job.
