Job Description

Job Description: Public Affairs Specialist II

Position Overview

The Public Affairs Specialist II serves as a skilled communicator and liaison between the Joint Tactical Networking Center (JTNC) and the public. This role is responsible for developing and executing communication strategies that effectively convey the organizations mission values and activities. The position requires proficiency in managing media relations creating compelling written content and coordinating outreach efforts all while ensuring compliance with Department of Defense (DoD) public affairs policies and security guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement public affairs and communication strategies in support of JTNC programs and initiatives.
  • Prepare press releases speeches articles and other public-facing communications.
  • Manage media inquiries and coordinate press engagements tours and outreach events.
  • Ensure all public information products are reviewed and cleared in accordance with DoD and Navy policies for release.
  • Support crisis communication and provide timely accurate information during incidents.
  • Utilize digital media platforms to enhance outreach and audience engagement.
  • Maintain working relationships with internal teams DoD counterparts and external stakeholders.
  • Travel as required including escorting visitors or media on site visits.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Journalism Communications Public Relations or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in journalism public relations or a related public affairs office role.
  • Strong writing editing and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of DoD public affairs policies clearance processes for public release and handling of classified information.
  • Familiarity with joint military communication environments and terminology.
  • Proficiency in digital media platforms content management and DoD-specific communication systems.

Security Clearance

  • Secret clearance required.
