Position Overview: Pool Technician/Maintenance Supervisor: Role Overview

The Pool Technician or Pool Maintenance Supervisor is a vital role within the Office of Facilities Management. This department one of the districts largest is responsible for cleaning and maintaining approximately 125 school facilities covering 11 million square feet and serving 43000 students across Boston. This position reports directly to the Assistant Director of Special Projects.

This role ensures the safety and well-being of all pool users and staff through proactive risk management. The Pool Technician or Pool Maintenance Supervisor will actively manage and maintain pools of varying sizes ranging from 400 to 229000 gallons. This includes combining operational oversight support and enforcement of safety regulations and codes thereby ensuring full compliance with all district and state regulations governing swimming activities. They will also optimize facility scheduling and usage to maximize pool availability and minimize disruptions while collaborating closely with vendors and contractors on all aquatic facility repairs maintenance and capital projects. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual passionate about aquatics to shape the future of the districts aquatic operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine Certified Pool Operator (CPO) duties including water quality chemical testing site inspections and pool equipment assessments to ensure adherence to health and safety regulations.
  • Maintain pools pool decks pool equipment areas and pool equipment
  • Responsible for providing and maintaining appropriate chemical inventory for all pool locations
  • Complete and submit timely reports and document all maintenance activities.
  • Manage purchase orders including ordering and inventorying supplies for all sites under BPS responsibility. Assist in the development and review of scopes of work (SOWs) and service contracts for aquatic facility repairs maintenance and capital projects.
  • Oversee the safe storage and usage of pool chemicals.
  • Ensure compliance with Boston Fire Department regulations regarding the storage and handling of hazardous substances.
  • Maintain or exceed compliance with all local state federal codes regulations standards and best practices.
  • Supervise contractors during pool-related projects (construction maintenance repairs) to guarantee compliance and operational efficiency.
  • Serve as the BPS liaison to City of Boston agencies to ensure regulatory compliance and prepare maintenance guidelines protocols and procedures.
  • Clean maintain and provide preventative and reactive maintenance to all pool filters pumps and associated pool equipment.
  • Routinely clean pools pool structures and pool decks. Maintain water clarity chemicals and cleanliness
  • Collaborate with BPS Health and Wellness BPS Athletics and other necessary organizations to support the safe operation of the pools.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director of Special Projects.

Qualifications-Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 5 years of aquatic maintenance experience
  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Valid drivers license.
  • Currently a Pool and Hot Tub Alliance (PHTA) Certification as a Certified Pool and Spa Operator (CPO)
  • Ability to meet deadlines and maintain a positive work ethic.
  • Must have strong interpersonal verbal and written skills
  • Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve
  • Must effectively work in a team environment
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours including weekends and emergency calls.
  • Maintain certification level of physical and mental readiness.
  • Must be able to lift to 50 pounds
  • Able to drive a minimum of 4 hours a day.
