At West Midlands Fire Service were looking for an experienced and motivated Senior Infrastructure Engineer to help shape and deliver the IT systems that support our life-saving work. If you thrive in a high-responsibility technically demanding environment we want to hear from you.
Responsibilities
maintain and support the technical delivery of IT infrastructure across the organisation
knowledge across several infrastructure technologies including computers storage networking cloud and more
supervise and mentor Infrastructure Engineers and provide expert advice to colleagues customers and suppliers
manage and deliver infrastructure projects on-time within budget and aligned to strategic goals
serve as 3rd line escalation point for complex incidents and technical problems
deputise for the Infrastructure Manager and help drive the long-term technical direction
ensure infrastructure systems are secure resilient and compliant with legislation and standards (NIST Cyber Essentials)
oversee corporate data centres network infrastructure (LAN/WAN/Cloud) telephony and virtualisation platforms
manage third-party suppliers and maintain operational standards across physical and virtual environments.
Experience and skills
Essential skills or experience
proven track record in IT infrastructure support and delivery at a senior level
strong knowledge of Windows and Unix environments cloud platforms (IaaS PaaS SaaS) and networking technologies
deep understanding of firewalls endpoint protection backup systems active directory and Microsoft 365
project management experience with strong documentation communication and leadership skills
ITIL qualification and experience with change incident and release management
Managing suppliers and experience working with third-party vendors in complex environments
strong problem-solving skills with the ability to translate challenging issues into actionable solutions.
Desirable skills or experience
confident and clear communicator with both technical and non-technical audiences
mentoring capabilities and the ability to build trusted working relationships
strong initiative dependable and capable of working without close supervision
comfortable working under pressure in a fast-paced or emergency-driven environment
committed to continual learning and driving innovation.
