About the Role
Brookfield Renewable a global leader in renewable energy is seeking a high-impactVice President Health Safety Security & Environment (HSS&E)to join our Corporate HSS&E team. This is a critical role focused on strengthening our approach to high-risk work reducing related incidents and driving HSS&E performance across complex and dynamic operations worldwide.
Reporting to theSVP Corporate HSS&E the Vice President will play a key role in shaping and delivering our global HSS&E strategy with a strong focus on high-risk activity management and serious incident prevention. The VP HSS&E will work across regions and functions to assist in coordinating Brookfield Renewables global HSS&E program embedding a resilient safety culture and helping to lead HSS&E performance improvement initiatives across all Brookfield Renewable portfolio companies.
Key Responsibilities
The Vice President HSS&E will be responsible for:
- Assisting the SVP Corporate HSS&E in the implementation of a global strategy focused on managing high-risk work and preventing serious incidents.
- Promoting safety leadership and engagement at all levels and fostering a culture of accountability and care.
- Coordinating initiatives undertaken by the global Corporate HSS&E team.
- Tracking of HSS&E onboarding actions for new portfolio companies / assets.
- Coordinating HSS&E aspects of initial Due Diligence activities undertaken prior to new investments or acquisitions.
- Facilitating initiatives aimed at the continuous improvement of HSS&E performance across construction operations and support functions in multiple geographies.
- Providing subject matter expertise to assist in the development of HSS&E policies processes and procedures necessary for implementation of the Brookfield Renewable HSS&E Management System.
- Assisting portfolio companies in defining strategies and action plans for the implementation of recommendations from Brookfield Renewable HSS&E Gap Analyses and audits;
- Leading and/or contributing to investigations into high-risk incidents and near misses ensuring lessons learned and corrective actions are shared and sustained across all Brookfield Renewable portfolio companies.
- Leveraging data insights and leading indicators to target HSS&E-related risks and drive the continuous improvement of Brookfield Renewables HSS&E program.
- Coordinating the regular collection compilation and analysis of HSS&E metrics across all portfolio companies.
- Supporting the development and enhancement of emergency response crisis preparedness and physical security practices.
- Assisting in the administration of contracts and IT systems used to manage the Corporate HSS&E program.
Knowledge and Experience Required
Candidates for the Vice President HSS&E position will ideally have a combination of the following:
- Minimum 10 years of HSS&E program management/leadership in high-risk industries (e.g. energy/utility renewables construction infrastructure).
- Extensive formal training particularly in safety and experience in safety system concepts including due diligence accident investigations etc.
- Degree in Occupational Health & Safety or related discipline and/or related certification (NEBOSH CSP CMIOSH etc.) would be an asset.
- Demonstrated expertise in managing critical risks and serious incidents.
- Strong leadership and coordination skills and ability to manage across cultures and regions.
- Strong interpersonal coaching and communication skills (written and verbal) with a particular strength in safety training.
- Knowledge of pertinent HSS&E regulations and best practices and the ability to advise management on their application.
- Comfortable with international travel and a fast-paced environment.
Note: Offices continue to be central to collaboration and Brookfields identity. This position requires the employee to be on-site for a minimum of 4 days to perform most effectively.
