Job Description
Job Goal: To instruct young students in theDrafting Technology/ Engineering theory & practical application in preparation for career readiness and college.
Somerville High Schools mission Center for Career & Technical Education is to provide a unique opportunity for all of its students to acquire career skills-both academic and vocational enabling them to compete successfully in a technologically advanced economy. Through a blend of academic and vocational instruction applied learning and worksite experience our students acquire the career skills and academic knowledge to ensure success in their chosen career and post-secondary education
Qualifications: The ideal candidate would be Chapter 74 Certified or working towards certification. The candidate would have experience in some of the following areas:
- Computer Literacy and Care
- Network Usage
- Educational Applications - Google Classroom Aspen etc.
- CAD - Autodesk Revit/AutoCAD Onshape Sketchup or equivalents
- Shop Equipment - 3D Printers and Laser Cutters
Responsibilities:
- Plan organize and provide appropriate learning experiences within assigned area of responsibilities.
- Teach technical skills and knowledge to provide students with the competence to become skilledin their field.
- Develop lesson plans and organize class time so that demonstration instruction hand-on practice review and final activities can be accomplished within the allotted tim
- Continuously improves the instruction curriculum and equipment so the CTVE area is current with all trends in the field is fully and properly preparing students for available and emerging jobs.
- Creates a classroom environment that is conductive to learning and appropriate to the students maturity and interests of the students.
- Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
- Guides the learning process towards the achievement of curriculum goals and in harmony withthe goals establishes clear objective for all lessons units and projects to communicate these objectives to students.
- Maintain accurate complete and correct records as required by law district policy regulation.
- Strives to maintain and improve professional competence especially as relates to the specific assignment and students grade and subject area appropriateness.
- Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with others.
- Establishes and maintains open line of communication with students colleagues and parents concerning both broad academic/vocational and behavioral progress of the assigned students.
- Per the Somerville Educators Union Unit A collective bargaining agreement
Position Reports to: The School Principal and Director of Vocational and Technical Education.
