Assistant Coach I

Reports to: Athletic Director/Principal

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES

Coach in various secondary school interscholastic athletic programs

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Promote sports in the schools and community
  2. Plan the assigned athletic program
  3. Organize and supervise practices
  4. Teach individual fundamental skills team play team strategy and rules and regulations of the game
  5. Teach good sportsmanship and self-control
  6. Check eligibility of participants including insurance coverage and parent consent
  7. Provide students a proper role model emotional support patience a friendly attitude and general guidance
  8. Conduct learning experiences with small groups of student athletes
  9. Recommend the purchase of equipment supplies and uniforms as appropriate for the health safety and welfare of student athletes
  10. Utilize Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) as outlined at the school/district
  11. Maintains regular and predictable attendance
  12. Adheres to the professional code of ethics
  13. Successfully utilizes technology as appropriate in job function
  14. Perform related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Fundamentals of various sports
  • Health and safety regulations
  • Interpersonal skills using tact patience and courtesy

ABILITY TO:

  • Assist coaches on one or more sports
  • Understand and follow oral and written directions
  • Read interpret apply and explain rules regulations policies and procedures

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Shall be a high school graduate and 21 years of age.
  2. Shall not be a vilent offender or convicted of a sex crime.
  3. Shall meet 1 of the following:a. Have graduated from a public or accredited high school and hold a provisional or standard teaching certificate; b. Have completed sixty-four semester hours of college credit from an accredited college or university as documented by an official transcript; c. Be a graduate from a public or accredited high school and comply with the local district standards for serving as an approved substitute teacher as approved by the Education Professional Standards Board; or d. Be a graduate from a public or accredited high school and complete all Board of Control prescribed electives as detailed. Level 2 coaches approved under this provision shall complete these requirements before coaching in the first interscholastic contest.
  4. Post hire requirements inlcude: a. AED/CPR training; b. Coaches Education Program; c. Sports Safety Training; d. Rules Clinic (HS only); background checks as required by the district and state.
