Job Description

ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING TENURE-TRACK FACULTY POSITION - The Electrical Engineering Department in the College of Engineering at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo California (Cal Poly) is excited to invite applications for a full-time academic year tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor rank beginning Fall 2025.

The successful candidate will havea strong interest in undergraduate teaching a broad base of knowledge and teaching interests and the ability to integrate that knowledge across the electrical engineering curriculum. Candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to project-based and hands-on learning and engaging in research collaborations with undergraduates and masters students.

Candidates with demonstrated experience in any of the following technical areas are encouraged to apply:

  • Electronic Design (analog digital and/or mixed signal)
  • Sensor/Actuation Systems including WSNs
  • Digital Signal Processing with High-Performance Hardware
  • Standards-based Systems Design and Project Management

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: (a) teaching undergraduate classes and laboratories in electrical engineering in general as well as graduate courses in an area of specialization. The ability to teach courses in more than one sub-specialty is preferred; (b) supervising undergraduate and graduate-level research; (c) developing and maintaining externally-funded research programs; (d) collaborating with other faculty on curricular research and professional development interests; (e) engaging in activities related to service in the form of student club advising curriculum development and shared governance.

Salary will be commensurate with education and experience of the individual selected. Qualified candidates with industry experience are encouraged to apply. Anticipated hiring range: $106000 - $118000 per year.

An earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in Electrical Engineering or a closely-related field from an accredited institution or international equivalent is required for appointment. Candidates nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) will be considered but must provide proof that the doctorate was awarded prior to or by the start of the appointment.

Candidates must have expertise in one of the desired areas and demonstrate this through peer reviewed publications in journals and/or conferences.

The successful candidate must have the ability to work effectively with students staff and faculty from diverse ethnic cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. The ideal candidate will show evidence of attention to and/or the potential to contribute on issues of diversity equity and inclusion across their teaching scholarship and service.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to those who can show evidence of working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative supportive and inclusive environment.

Demonstrated excellence in university level teaching and research experience with laboratory-based instruction and willingness to teach in multiple areas of the undergraduate and graduate curriculum. The candidate is expected to be driven with a passion for teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels as well as be engaged in scholarship. Prior engineering industry experience and professional licensure is preferable but not required.

Preference will be given to those with relevant work experience and those who bring professional capabilities to the role.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

The person holding this position is considered a mandated reporter under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

Following a conditional offer of employment a background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate may start work with Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may result in the withdrawal of the offer of employment.
