Job Description

The Physical Sciences Division at the University of Chicago invites applications for Instructional Professor (open rank) in the Department of Computer Science. This is a full-time career-track teaching position beginning as early as September 2025 or as late as September 2026 and is renewable with the opportunity for progression. The selected candidate will be appointed as Assistant Instructional Professor Associate Instructional Professor or Instructional Professor depending on on the rank the appointment will be for a term of up to five years renewable with the possibility for promotion.

The selected candidate will be responsible for teaching six courses over the academic year in introductory programming algorithms machine learning or systems depending on the candidates qualifications and programmatic addition to teaching the candidate will also be expected to keep regular office hours contribute to non-classroom instructional or service duties and ongoing professional development.

The terms and conditions of employment for this position are covered by a collective bargaining agreement between the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and the University.



Candidates must have a PhD in Computer Science or related field by the start of the appointment and have at least one year of college or university level teaching experience.
