Job Description

The grant-fundedExecutive Director reports directly to FMUs Executive Vice President and CFO. The Executive Director oversees the daily operations of the Florida Council on the Social Status of Black Men and Boys and is responsible for the management and coordination of all the administrative and fiscal activities of the Council as approved by FMUs President or EVP & addition the Executive Director complies with all official policies of Florida Memorial University. The Executive Director will work closely with the Council state officials legislators and other organizations to fulfill the Councils statutory duties as set forth in Section 16.615 Florida Statutes as amended and made effective July 1 2025.

Essential Functions:


Thee Executive Director must be a strong leader who can demonstrate knowledge of African-American issues research trends and methods and understand the legislative process; demonstrate experience in strategic planning and budge oversight; provide excellent management organization administration and public relation skills; demonstrate an ability to develop and sustain strong relationships with diverse groups; have excellent communication skills in order to represent the public relations interest of the Council; and demonstrate a proven track record of success in managing a commission organization.

Staff Management:

  • Work with the Executive Vice President and CFO to recruit hire and evaluate all Council staff volunteers and student interns in accordance with the personnel policy and procedures for employees of the Florida Memorial University.
  • Make recommendations to EVP/CFO on staff promotions and pay adjustments for approval according to current personnel policies of all FMU employees.
  • Recommend such discipline of staff (reprimand suspension or dismissal) to the EVP/CFO for approval according to current personnel policies of FMU employees.

Council Operations:

  • Oversee daily operations of the Council and serve as support and resources to Council members ensuring that Council members staff and day-to-day operations of the Council are aligned with the mission strategy and policies of the Council applicable rules and regulations as required by Florida Memorial University policies and procedures. Develop an organizational culture and promote transparency through collaboration throughout the Council.
  • Develop manage and direct the Councils core mission.

Budget:

  • Develop an annual spending plan under the direction of the FMU provide complete budget management and oversight to include expenditure projections and monitoring provide monthly budget status updates prepare budget requests and other duties
  • Develop community relationships outreach direct marketing programs and events to cultivate motivate and solicit individual foundation and corporate support for the Councils efforts

Public Relations:

  • Initiate develop and maintain strong Councils work.
  • Promote favorable public image and Represent the Council mission
  • Coordinate the promotion of communication activities. Coordinate press media relations and events at the direction of FMUs Office of Public Affairs

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience in working with African American issues and organizations.
  • Proven experience as Executive Director and project management.
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and public speaking skills.
  • Outstanding leadership interpersonal and motivational skills and leadership abilities.
  • Ability to work with business community public entities and communicate the mission and vision statement of the Council to where people can believe in it.
  • Strong understanding of organizational finance and measures of performance. Experience in Grant writing.
  • Possess strong proposal development and review skills.
  • Experience in establishing opportunities.
  • Experience in developing strategies plans have a history of successful mission-specific project collaborations with clear achievable milestones and a framework to meet them.
  • Experience in preparation of organizational meetings.
  • Experience in developing planning organizing and administering organizational Bylaws to ensure administrative and operational objectives are met.
  • Ability to work independently; plan organize and coordinate work assignments.
  • Utilize out-of-the-box problem solving techniques.
  • Ability to conduct research; complete data gathering assignments and prepare administrative reports.

Minimum Requirements:

  • A bachelors degree from an accredited college or university and five years of administrative leadership experience
  • A masters degree from an accredited college or university can substitute for one year of required experience. Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule may include extended hours and/or travel outside of the work site. Pre-Employment Requirements:
