Position Purpose:
To provide efficient and quality services on the MSUM campus in the Residence Halls so that students staff and building users are in a clean and safe environment.
Responsibilities:
1. Clean all restrooms so they are maintained in a sanitary and hygienic condition.
- Clean and disinfect sinks toilets urinals counters showers and bathtubs. Clean mirrors.
- Refill toilet paper sanitary receptacle bags paper towels (if applicable) and soap.
- Empty and clean trash and sanitary receptacles.
- Clean vents walls hand dryers soap dispensers and partitions.
- Scrub mop and disinfect floors. Water levels in floor drains maintained to prevent sewer gas.
- Showers pressure washed to maintain appearance weekly.
2. Clean kitchens laundry rooms entrances hallways lobbies stairwells garbage rooms elevators lounges study rooms multi-purpose rooms recreation areas computer labs and offices.
- Kitchens
- Clean stoves ovens microwaves sinks counters tables vent hoods and walls.
- Refill soap and paper towels as needed. Empty trash sweep and mop.
- Laundry Rooms
- Clean washing machines dryers sink tubs and tables.
- Empty trash sweep and mop.
- Entrances hallways and lobbies
- Dust mop sweep and mop hallways entrances and lobbies. Use auto-scrubber when needed. Clean window glass door glass doors door hardware windowsills and heat registers.
- Stairwells
- Sweep and mop stairs. Clean handrails walls and floor ledges.
- Garbage rooms
- Empty trash recycling and cardboard. Wipe walls sweep and mop.
- Clean out trash and recycling receptacles as needed.
- Elevators
- Wipe walls disinfect buttons and hand railings vacuum or sweep and mop.
- Lounges study rooms multi-purpose rooms recreation areas offices and computer labs
- Clean tables chairs furniture whiteboards heat registers window glass door glass and doors.
- Empty trash vacuum or sweep and mop.
3. Perform other related GMW duties as assigned.
- Check e-mail coverage schedule and work orders daily.
- Maintain inventory and supplies.
- Clean shovel and de-ice all building entries in work areas as needed or directed. This may also include stairs and around recycling and trash dumpsters. Record work performed on the Entrance Log Sheet each time work is done. Logs submitted yearly to supervisor.
- Assist in covering other areas as determined by your supervisor.
- Perform special related tasks as assigned.
4. Perform special tasks extra cleaning during summer and breaks during the school year so that sanitary conditions will be maintained.
- Shampoo all carpets and scrub and finish floors.
- Deep clean assigned work areas and other areas as assigned by your supervisor.
- Clean screens blinds vents and light covers are cleaned.
- Shower curtains are cleaned or changed out for new ones.
- Repairs are written down or put in on Star Rez for the General Repair Workers or other trades.
- Outside windows and door glass are cleaned.
- Arrange room furniture.
5. To detect equipment/light faults and breakdowns. Repair or report them to the proper authority.
- To ensure the areas in which you work operates efficiently.
- Check equipment daily to determine if maintenance is needed. Repair if possible. If not inform your supervisor.
- Report to supervisory any hazardous conditions.
- Replace light bulbs as needed.
6. Adhere to all safety regulations defined by the City State Federal University codes.
- Maintain security as needed.
- Maintain safety and environmental rules and regulations.
- To read and understand Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
- Maintain OSHA standards as required and be able to locate the MSDS sheets.
- To complete yearly safety training and other training as assigned.
- Ensure the buildings and areas in which you work operate efficiently.
- Report to supervisor any hazardous conditions.
7. This position is ESSENTIAL as determined by management of MSUM during weather and other emergency periods as declared by the Commissioner of Employee Relations of the University President. The following responsibilities do not lend themselves to any percent of time breakdown. These are behavioral responsibilities that all staff are expected to exhibit 100% of the time and are not added to the total percent of time for other responsibilities.
- Report for duty at designated time.
- Minimal use of sick time and only for legitimate reasons.
- Identify weaknesses or shortcomings in written procedures and bring to supervisors attention.
- Seek ways to improve or streamline operating methods.
- Utilize automated technology sufficient to fulfill assigned tasks so that the use of computerized equipment that is provided can be maximized and job assignments can be completed efficiently.

Salary Range:
$18.57 - $25.05 hourly
Minimum Qualifications:
- Human relationship skills to interact with daily contact with students staff and faculty.
- Ability to pass a background check in accordance with the Kari Koskenin Background Check Act.
- Follow oral and written instructions.
- Perform assigned tasks with limited work direction.
- Ability to be on a ladder periodically to do cleaning or change light bulbs.
- Able to read and comprehend Material Data Safety Sheets and be able to follow safe handling storage transportation and disposal of all cleaning materials.
- Ability to determine appropriate cleaning products and use them effectively.
- Must be able to operate equipment in a manner consistent with manufacturers instructions. Equipment includes (but is not limited to) vacuums kai vacs floor scrubbers sweepers and carpet extractors.
- Basic computer skills to do timesheets trainings work orders and check emails.
Preferred Qualification:
- Experience working in residential or academic setting.
- Experience with cleaning chemicals and equipment.
Other Requirements:
- Be in good physical health able to lift or move 50 lbs. do repetitive bending twisting kneeling reaching overhead move furniture stand for long periods of time work in enclosed areas be able to go up and down stairs and to work in buildings after the ventilation system is shut off.
