Job Summary

The Nurse Midwife provides comprehensive outpatient medical evaluation education and management for clients that present for routine preventative acute and chronic disease healthcare services at the clinic site. They coordinate all of the services necessary for health promotion maintenance rehabilitation and the prevention of disease and disability.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Assess and interpret medical and psycho-social histories; perform physical examinations (including obstetric and gynecological and breast examination as appropriate; identify problems; formulate a plan of treatment; provide education and referral (as indicated); and evaluate the effectiveness of the interventions prescribed
  • Independently assess and treat patients as clinically indicated. Consult with OB/GYN physicians and refer clients with abnormal conditions or other medical psychological or social problems to the collaborating physician or another appropriate referral course when indicated
  • Perform or order laboratory tests and interpret the results as part of health management. Report communicable diseases in a timely manner to the appropriate Health Department as per health center protocol
  • Order medications
  • Follow established treatment guidelines as indicated by national guidelines or Health Center protocols
  • Meet clinical quality performance measures (UDS and HEDIS measures)
  • Conduct health teaching and counseling during the medical encounter as appropriate enabling the client to make informed choices about health and treatment options
  • Complete the clients clinical record documentation in a timely manner specific to the applicable policies and procedures of the health center
  • Participate in quality improvement/assurance activities
  • Participate in continuing medical education activities to enhance professionalism and to ensure quality of care
  • Document all patient care in the electronic health record in a timely and accurate manner
  • Provide on-call coverage as scheduled
  • Work collaboratively with all members of the health center to build a supportive team
  • Apply infection control measures according to Health Center Policies and Procedures
  • Maintain professionalism and adhere to client confidentiality
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Visual acuity and manual dexterity to interface with the computer and perform medical procedures as indicated
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of individuals both internally and externally
  • Maintain CMEs/CEUs required for licensure

Education and Experience

  • Masters degree in nursing with specialization in Nurse Midwifery
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience as a Midwife preferred
  • Licensed to practice as a CA Nurse Practitioner and currently registered as a Registered Nurse in the State of California
  • Active DEA License
  • Certified by American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB)
  • Current BLS certification obtained through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Requires current and valid drivers license and current personal auto insurance
  • Experience working:
    • For a non-profit organization or clinic preferred
    • With Epic preferred
    • In a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) preferred
    • With the LGBTQ and Transgender populations preferred
    • With the homeless population preferred
    • With HIV persons preferred
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

  • This position is on-site at a DAP Health clinic
  • This job operates in an office setting and requires frequent times of sitting standing repetitive motion and talking
  • Able to travel to DAP Health locations within the assigned region as needed for coverage to support multiple teams and provide the necessary coverage. Advanced notice will be given whenever possible.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and move from place to place
  • Ensures compliance with policies and procedures related to safe work practices
  • Available for all shifts and when required able to work evenings and weekends
