Position Summary:
Provides Direct and indirect patient care using the nursing process in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice. The nurse extern performs all tasks under the supervision of a Registered Nurse
Essential Functions
Works collaboratively with the patient care team.
Performs direct patient care under the direction delegation and supervision of a registered nurse.
Documents patient care given.
Monitors records and communicates patient condition as appropriate to supervising RN.
Maintains positive professional relationship with patient/ families coworkers and health care team.
Assists patients with performing activities of daily living including personal hygiene elimination nutrition and ambulation.
Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care including patient transfer discharge referral and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides patient/family education appropriate to age culture condition and circumstances.
Works as an advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient.
Supports performance improvement philosophy.
Nonessential Functions
Assist with orientation and training of personnel and students.
Participates and attends meetings as required and/ or assigned.
Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum Education
Current Registered Nurse Student in good standing within an accredited nursing program
Required Skills
Requires critical thinking skills decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Certifications:
Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (BLS-HCP) or obtained within 90 days
