What Youll Do

The Y-12 Infrastructure Supervisor position oversees bargaining unit craft workers and provides leadership in maintaining safe working conditions and is proactive in preventing injuries radiological contamination and other chemical and hazardous exposures to the workforce.

  • Ensures the principles of the Integrated Safety Management System (ISMS) Integrated Safeguards and Security Management (ISSM) and Conduct of Operations requirements are implemented at the crew level and used for all prints and sketches
  • Works with maintenance planning personnel to organize and design job methodology included in job packages
  • Reviews schedules and planned maintenance job packages and work to be accomplished by maintenance craft
  • Reviews and approves job packages and schedules; involves craft in review of job packages and safety evaluations
  • Assigns craft personnel to jobs based on job-specific skill requirements and ensures that they are trained and qualified to perform assigned functions in a safe and efficient manner
  • Coordinates and directs assignments so that schedules are met and standards of workmanship are maintained at a high level
  • Participates in hazard identification hazard assessment and implementation of appropriate controls for safe execution of work
  • Ensures appropriate worker involvement feedback and continuous improvements are part of the work control process
  • Participates in the formal safety investigations of all accidents involving his/her employees and prepares special reports required in accident investigation or occurrences
  • Conducts meetings job briefs and crew briefs monitors timekeeping and accountable absences
  • Oversees required training and worker certification maintains records issues work permits
  • Ensures maintenance activities are completed in accordance with applicable requirements
  • Maintains good configuration control of equipment and tools
  • Ensures that tools and equipment are in proper working condition and confirms that necessary materials and supplies for the work are available in a timely manner
  • Ensures good housekeeping in shops and that shop equipment is well maintained
  • Handles all personnel matters associated with work group including requirements of bargaining unit contract
  • Participates in interviews; makes hiring recommendations; evaluates performance; coaches counsels rewards and disciplines employees as appropriate; and trains and develops crew
  • Provides leadership and personal interaction to promote positive work envronment and encourages individual involvement

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree: Minimum 5 years of relevant experience
  • Thirteen (13) or more years of education and/or relevant experience may be considered to satisfy educational and years-of-experience requirements for this posting
  • In addition the applicant must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2A (i.e. High School diploma and 3 years nuclear experience; or a DOE O 426.2A alternative). DOE 426.2A NUCLEAR experience requirements can be satisfied following the interim newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities. (Ref. DOE O 426.2A)

Preferred Job Requirements

  • Broad knowledge and experience in the repair and maintenance of industrial equipment facilities and systems
  • Working knowledge of shop math and the capability to read and interpret blueprints vendor manuals and other related data
  • Ability to analyze and evaluate jobs and be able to effectively administer the bargaining unit contract
  • Possess good interpersonal and demonstrated leadership skills
  • Ability to work overtime as required in this position
  • Some college or vocational training is preferred
  • Ability to navigate through our CMMS and other Y12 administrative systems (One Time etc.) desirable
  • Experience in a nuclear plant /facility
  • Maintenance experience as supervisor of skilled craft
  • Experience with using SAP is preferred
  • Journeyman license training or applicable experience
  • Basic skills in Microsoft Excel and Word

Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.

This position may require entry into the Material Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (10 C.F.R. Part 712) which requires successful competition of a DOE counterintelligence evaluation and may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination. This position may be categorized as a designated position identified by 10 C.F.R. Part 709 requiring successful completion of a DOE counterintelligence evaluation that may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination.
