Job Summary

Job Summary/Basic Function:

We are seeking dedicated and dynamic substitute instructors to teach in our Intensive English Program (IEP). This is an excellent opportunity for both experienced and novice educators to gain valuable teaching experience and contribute to global English speakers who wish to improve their language skills for academic professional and/or personal growth. We are looking for flexible individuals who can cover classes as needed. Our classes run Monday-Friday from around 9:00 am to 3:30 pm.

Department Overview:

The IEP offers courses divided into five proficiency levels currently taught in blended classrooms. Our curriculum focuses on the communicative approach and includes instruction in the four core language skills. All courses are scheduled during the day from Monday through Friday on the Boise State main campus. A typical class in the IEP has between 10 and 16 students.

Level Scope:

Substitute instructors will be responsible for teaching various levels of English as a Second Language (ESL) to international and resident students. Courses may include reading writing listening speaking grammar and pronunciation.

Essential Functions:

The IEP Substitute will:

Deliver high-quality student-centered instruction based on existing curriculum and lesson plans provided by IEP Instructors.

Manage a classroom effectively and create a positive learning environment.
Provide constructive feedback on student work and monitor their progress.

Collaborate with the IEP team and adhere to program policies.
Attend a brief orientation to familiarize yourself with the program and its resources.

Knowledge Skills Abilities:

Classroom teaching experience
Possess strong classroom management skills.
Ability to interact and work with non-native speakers.

MinimumQualifications:

Bachelors degree

Preferred Qualifications:

TESOL certification
Formal education and/or training in Second Language Acquisition.
Proficiency in a foreign language.

Salary and Benefits:
The hourly rate is $21.91/hour
