Job Description

Job Title:Early Childhood Special Education Teacher (Itinerant/Child Find)

Supervisor: Special Services

FLSA: Non-Exempt

Contracted Days: Part Time (Hourly)

Job Summary: Responsible for delivering itinerant special education services to preschool-aged children with disabilities in private and community-based early childhood settings. This teacher will play a vital role on the districts Child Find team assisting with the identification evaluation and provision of services for children ages 35 who may qualify for special education. The position involves collaborating with families and professionals to ensure access to appropriate early intervention and preschool services; facilitating the identification and placement process for children with disabilities; supporting transitions from early intervention programs; and developing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).

Qualifications:

  • South Carolina Teacher Certification in appropriate area (Special Education)
  • Degree(s) required and area of major study from an accredited college/university
  • Prior job experience preferred
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable

Essential Duties:

  • Provide itinerant special education services to preschool-aged children in community-based home-based and private early childhood programs
  • Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) tailored to the needs of students outlining specific goals services and supports
  • Schedule coordinate and facilitate IEP meetings
  • Deliver direct and indirect specially designed instruction that supports communication social-emotional cognitive and motor skill development
  • Collaborate with general early childhood educators parents childcare providers and other professionals to embed strategies and interventions into daily routines in order to create a supportive environment for the child
  • Support transitions for students entering and exiting early childhood special education services
  • Be knowledgeable of the SC Early Learning Standards and modify (if appropriate) the general education curriculum to meet individual student needs
  • Complete the initial and exit Child Outcome Summary forms
  • Implement a consistent schedule for providing services and communicate with related program(s) if a change in schedule is needed
  • Monitor document and report progress of students and develop data collection procedures for use by related staff
  • Participate as a member of the districts Child Find team to identify and evaluate children ages 35 who may need special education services
  • Conduct observations screenings and assessments in home school and community-based setting
  • Advocate for the needs of children with disabilities and ensure they receive appropriate services
  • Regularly communicate with related stakeholders including parents/guardians about the childs progress and needs
  • Other duties as assigned
