Overview
The Student Health and Wellness Program Coordinator is responsible for developing implementing and managing student-focused upstream health and wellness programming within a community-based mental health promotion framework to improve the well-being of students facilitate their growth and development and contribute to a flourishing campus. This role involves collaboration with other health professionals academic partners and community organizations to identify and address mental health needs within the StFX student population. The Student Health and Wellness Program Coordinator is also responsible for monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of mental health promotion programs and initiatives and making necessary adjustments to improve outcomes. As a member of the Health and Counselling Centre team the Student Health and Wellness Program Coordinator acts as a liaison between clinical interventions and community-based programming opportunities for students to develop and strengthen resilience healthy coping skills and connection with community.
Key Responsibilities
Supports the Director in achieving departmental and university goals through leadership innovation and collaborative planning.
Designs and delivers evidence-based health promotion programs (up to 125 events annually) focusing on holistic health wellness and mental health with 50% developed in collaboration with internal and external partners.
Manages resources budgets and timelines to ensure health promotion initiatives are delivered effectively and within scope.
Builds partnerships with healthcare professionals student groups academic stakeholders and local agencies to support health initiatives and knowledge sharing.
Develops communication strategies (social media presentations outreach) to promote programs and raise awareness of mental health initiatives.
Collects and analyzes program data to measure impact with results documented in the annual report.
Supervises and develops student health promotion teams (<15 students) fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment.
Ensures events and programs follow all university and risk management regulations.
Facilitates mental health literacy programs (e.g. The Inquiring Mind) in partnership with StFX and the Mental Health Commission of Canada.
Qualifications
Minimum of a Bachelors degree in a health/wellness-related field education or guidance counselling
Five years of directly related experience
Training and experience in evidence-based intervention approaches
Experience with community-based group facilitation
Experience supervising a small team
Superior interpersonal skills
Strong oral and written communication skills
Excellent organizational skills
Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment and decision-making
