Intern in the Policies and Regulations Chapter within Financial Risk - Balance Sheet Risk

Job description

The job would be ideal for someone who is studying for her/his bachelors or masters degree and wants to become familiar with/get an introduction to the banking environment and how ING Financial Risk manages its policies to stay compliant to the current regulatory framework mostly defined by the ECB (European Central Bank).

The team

The Financial Risk department is a Tier 2 Function to set and control the financial risk strategy across the organization. The Policies & Regulations (P&R) Chapter is part of the Balance Sheet Management Risk Tribe in Financial Risk. The P&R Chapter provides strategic guidance on financial risk and regulations for trading risk counterparty credit risk and other balance sheet risks. More concretely the responsibilities of the Policies & Regulations Team include:

  • writing coordinating and updating financial risk policies in line with regulations and/or internal guidelines;
  • building and maintaining relationships with regulators supervisors industry associations and internal stakeholders;
  • actively contributing to shaping new regulations (e.g. by participating in BCBS consultations);
  • communicating financial risk policies and regulations throughout the organization;
  • providing guidance and advice to internal stakeholders;
  • coordinating financial risk related supervisory on-site visits and requests for information in alignment with the Regulations & International Affairs department.

The Chapter consists of 7 people and has a global scope.

Roles and responsibilities

The candidate will be working about 1 or 15 day a week (see below) and her/his activities would consist of:

  • Management of the Financial Risk Policy House and the corresponding internal database (i.e. iRisk).
  • Implementation of INGs Internal Control Binding Standards into the Policy House.
  • Stakeholder management around the Financial Risk Policy House and possibly being contact for external locations on the implementation of ING Financial Risk Policy House.
  • Assisting the Chapter in policy revisions and smaller adjustments and supporting supervisory requests.
  • Preparing Policy House overviews for higher management and internal reporting.

Dependent on the candidates background and preference additional content related and more complex issues on financial risk topics can be added. However safeguarding the completeness and quality i.e. quality assurance of the Financial Risk Policy House remains the main activity of the internship. The candidate will report to the Chapter Lead Policies & Regulations in Financial Risk Balance Sheet Risk.

Skills required

  • Studying for a bachelors or masters degree (e.g. Economics).
  • Interested in financial risk the prudential regulatory environment and familiar with the basic financial risk and banking concepts.
  • Excellent skills in Excel and managing data overviews.
  • Solid analytical skills with the ability to think broadly but also with attention to detail.
  • Focused self-driven and results oriented.
  • Solid writing and communication skills in English.
  • Flexible team player in line with INGs Orange Code (you help each other to be successful).
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks and deadlines.
