What Is The Opportunity
Aecon is proactively seeking abilingual Health and Safety Managerto join the Urban Transportations Solutions group to support future dynamic transit projects in Canada. We are proud to support projects that are committed to faster and more convenient travel ultimately improving transportation experiences. This starts with bringing aboard the best possible team!
What Youll Do Here:
Assist management with the sourcing and hiring process for the Safety department.
Develop and deliver site specific safety training and orientation to workers owners and clients.
Develop and train supervisors and staff on the Health & Safety Management System.
Participate in project plan development focusing on the identification and mitigation of EHS risks with a primary focus on Critical Risks and their controls.
Conduct site observations inspections on active project sites to evaluate ongoing work conditions to ensure critical risk management processes are implemented and fully functioning to prevent incidents and to achieve compliance with Occupational Health and Safety management system requirements.
Liaise with external parties such as government inspectors sub-contractors and general public.
Work with project management teams and field workers to implement and devise solutions to safety-related issues on project sites.
Work with senior management to ensure emergency management processes are implemented on the project. This will include leading the creation of emergency preparedness and response plans and a schedule of exercises and drills for the project.
Participate in the evaluation and selection of subcontractors to ensure they comply with safety expectations and standards. This includes pre-qualification selection mobilization and ongoing auditing and observations.
Represent Aecon at meetings with stakeholders and other organizations on issues regarding workplace health and safety matters.
Other duties as assigned.

What You Bring To The Team:
Minimum 10 years experience coordinating and managing health and safety for heavy civil infrastructure projects.
Knowledge of Construction projects with a solid understanding of the Occupation Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and regulations.
Bachelors degree Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) (or equivalent) and Certificate of Recognition (COR) Auditor (or equivalent).
National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) is required.
Background in Training and/or Education and experience delivering EHS Training programs to individuals and groups.
Intermediate to advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word Excel PowerPoint Outlook).
Ability to communicate with tact and diplomacy; excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Experience in working on heavy civil infrastructure projects specifically Light Rail (LRT) and railways.
Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
Understanding of the Commercial Vehicle Operators Registration System.
Understanding of the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board System (WSIB) and return to work program.
Adaptable and flexible to an ever-changing environment.
Valid drivers license with good driving record and the ability to drive to job sites.
