Job Description

    The Role

    Marcellin College a leading Catholic boys school presents an opportunity for an accomplished individual to lead our Music Department as Head of Music commencing Term 1 2026.

    The Head of Music will take responsibility for the planning and organisation of the classroom Music Program the Instrumental Program and the College Instrumental and Choral Ensembles. The Head of Music will make a significant contribution to the liturgical life of the College and will be an active member of the Faith and Mission team.

    The Head of Music will work with the Deputy Principal - Faith and Mission to ensure music has an integral role in the liturgical celebrations of the College. They will also work closely with the Directors of Learning to ensure the development and implementation of a comprehensive cocurricular music program. A leader appointed to this position will work closely with the Deputy Principal - Learning and Teaching Directors of Learning and other Learning Leaders to develop and implement learning and teaching programs.

    The Head of Music is expected to support and promote the vision and goals of the College as a faith learning community founded on the Gospels and Marist Charism. All College leaders are committed to ongoing professional learning.

    Key Success Factors

    In this role you willdrive a collaborative culture of quality learning student and staff growth and academic excellence aligned with the Colleges Catholic ethos Marist Spirituality Victorian Curriculum and Vision for Learning.

    This role works closely with the Learning and Teaching Team and relevant staff to ensure the development and implementation of a holistic learning and teaching program that is reflective of innovative practices.

    You will be someone who is able to model excellent teaching practices while building the capabilities of our learners through evidence-based approaches to teaching and will be expected to support the vision of the College as a learning community and to be involved in professional development and ongoing learning.

    To be successful in this role you will bring relevant qualifications and contemporary teaching experience in your specialist teaching areas as well as:

    • A willingness to uphold the vision and values of Marcellin College
    • Role model and inspire a passion for Learning in all students
    • An understanding of contemporary teaching and learning pedagogies
    • A commitment to working collaboratively as a part of a team
    • Strong interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills

    • A commitment to pastoral wellbeing and meeting the social and emotional wellbeing needs of students
    • Current VIT Registration
