Job Duties
For more than three decades the Virginia Lottery has worked to build a strong reputation one synonymous with providing fun entertaining experiences and doing so responsibly and with integrity. Proceeds from traditional Lottery games support K-12 public education in Virginia. Taxes generated by sports wagering and casino gaming which are regulated by the Lottery benefit other priorities of the Commonwealth.
The Virginia Lottery is currently seeking a Games Analyst to join our Marketing Department.
The Games Analyst is responsible for developing maintaining and analyzing datasets to improve sales and profitability of Virginia Lottery games both at retail and online. Reporting to the Strategic Games Manager this position will play a critical role in providing analysis and insights based on data to help inform strategic decisions and provide actionable insights. The Games Analyst will work closely with each member of the Games Team to ensure they have a strong understanding of the portfolio including mechanics price points player behaviors addition to the Games Team the Games Analyst will work collaboratively with other Lottery analysts to provide a well-rounded representation of the data and insights. Along with first-party Lottery data the Games Analyst will work to incorporate and analyze third-party data.
In addition to providing strategic analysis the Games Analyst will review and confirm the accuracy of prize structures identify opportunities for improvement and participate in the development of new prize structures. This position will be responsible for identifying potential software tools that will help provide more focused analysis. The Games Analyst will develop ad hoc reports as requested on individual game details that can be reviewed and analyzed for feedback as well as maintaining and making improvements as necessary to existing reports.
Develops Monitors and Reports on the Virginia Lotterys Games Performance
Defines the necessary reporting required to monitor and track towards established KPIs for Scratchers Draw Games and Online Games.
Maintains and manages dashboards from multiple sources that highlight the key performance indicators.
Proactively reviews and analyzes individual and overall game sales to identify trends and provides actionable insights.
Provides monthly reports on game performance and recommendations.
Serves as the subject matter expert on sales trends for both Online and Retail.
Collaborates with other internal and external analysts to provide strategic direction recommendations.
Analyzes the sell-through rates of Scratchers to aid with roadmap planning.
Reviews Analyzes and Improves Prize Structures and Game Details
Reviews and analyzes the prize structures for every game that is developed to identify opportunities for improvement and 100% accuracy.
Develops tools that ensure prize structures are optimized for the Virginia market.
Provides strategic insights on game details (price point game style etc.) that can be used to improve and enhance games.
Creates ad hoc reports as requested that identify player behavior for games.
Makes strategic recommendations on how to improve games based on data that is available.
Serves as Games Analyst Expert with External Vendors and Industry Data
Collaborates with external partners on collecting third-party data that can be used in conjunction with first-party data to make strategic recommendations.
Develops tools that can incorporate third-party data into existing dashboards.
Facilitates discussions with external partners on potential impacts to games and identifies new best practices.
Meets with other lotteries to discuss sales trends and individual game performance.
Marketing Department support coordination and implementation
Works collaboratively with relevant Lottery departments to ensure games are adhering to requirements and standards.
Creates and fosters an agile work environment to support rapid change within the Lotterys policies.
Collaborates regularly with stakeholders to plan coordinate and implement recommended game analysis efforts.
Utilizes tools to maintain cohesive team-oriented project management to ensure seamless implementation of initiatives and plans.
Note - This position requires in-office work three days per week including Tuesday and Wednesday.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors Degree from an accredited 4-year college or university with major studies in Marketing Mathematics Statistics or a related field.
2 years of experience managing product analytics programs.
Strong understanding of the gaming sector or comparable consumer packaged goods.
Experience with Microsoft Excel including the ability to use formulas functions and pivot tables to manipulate and analyze data.
Experience with Microsoft Power BI and data visualization tools such as Tableau or similar.
Demonstrated project management skills.
Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously meet deliverables and coordinate across multiple departments and external vendors.
Ability to manage ad hoc requests and unexpected shifts in schedules.
Excellent written verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
Solid understanding of digital technologies best practices and web and mobile applications.
Exceptional time management skills.
A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
