Job Description

Description of Work

**This is an INTERNAL POSTING and open ONLY for current employees of the NC Department of Adult Corrections and eligible RIF candidates from NC State Government.*

This position is responsible for the direction administration and supervision of all nursing activities in the Western Region of the state.

  • Responsible for planning coordinating implementing and evaluating the quality of nursing care delivered to approximately 15 assigned prisons in the region.
  • Primary purpose is to provide assistance to Health Services Director of Nursing and other vital members of the Nurse Executive Team.
  • Responsible for the hiring orientation and administrative/clinical supervision of the regional nurse supervisors and float nurses assigned within the region.
  • Provide assistance to the facility wardens in hiring and orienting nurse managers within the assigned facilities.
  • Ability to work with the assigned facility nurse managers regarding issues affecting nursing care delivery and difficult personnel issues.
  • Ability to work with other disciplines to fulfill the goals and objectives of the Department.
  • Knowledgeable regarding state and federal rules and regulations and accrediting agencies governing nursing practice quality assurance/risk management principles infection control staff development and human resources.
  • This position reports directly to the Health Services Director of Nursing.
  • Must have extensive supervisory and knowledge and experience managing a nursing operation.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills required.
  • Extensive travel throughout the assigned area.

This position is assigned to work an 8am 5pm shift Monday - Friday however incumbent must be able to respond and adjust work hours to meet the needs of the region.Often required to respond to calls and emergencies after hours and on weekends.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina and six years of nursing experience including four years of experience in a Nurse Supervisor capacity.

The Division of Comprehensive Health Services is dedicated to providing evidence-based compassionate and constitutionally consistent medical care to all offenders in custody. Their goal is to ensure that all offenders receive full-spectrum medical care from the time of entry until their release. The team of physicians nurses behavioral health services dental services psychiatric services pharmacy services and licensed healthcare administration services work together to provide emergent acute routine and chronic health care as well as preventive medicine at all prison facilities. They also coordinate with specialists and other clinical consultants outside of prisons throughout the state to ensure comprehensive health and well-being towards a safe transition from prison improving public health and decreasing recidivism.
