Our client a leading heavy truck dealership is seeking an experienced Heavy-Duty Diesel Mechanic to join their Birmingham AL team. This role focuses on preparing new Class 8 trucks for delivery and reconditioning used trucks for resale. The ideal candidate is skilled in diagnostics repair and preventive maintenance for medium- and heavy-duty truck systems and can work to OEM warranty and dealership quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform consistent high-quality work according to OEM warranty and dealership specifications.
Inspect diagnose and repair a wide range of systems including engines transmissions suspension brakes HVAC and electrical components.
Prepare new trucks for customer delivery and recondition pre-owned trucks for resale.
Use diagnostic tools and software (e.g. Detroit DiagnosticLink Cummins INSITE Eaton ServiceRanger) to identify root cause issues.
Document all findings repairs and parts usage accurately for service records and warranty submission.
Communicate with the Parts Department Service Advisors and Management regarding repair status additional needs and timelines.
Conduct quality checks and road tests to confirm repairs meet performance standards.
Maintain a clean safe and organized work environment.
Qualifications:
Valid driver s license with the ability to meet insurance requirements.
Class B CDL with air brake endorsement preferred; Class A CDL highly preferred.
Certificate from a diesel technology training program OR a minimum of 4 years of medium/heavy-duty truck repair experience (dealership or military environment).
Proficiency with heavy truck diagnostic software and repair procedures.
Welding and fabrication experience is a plus.
Own basic and advanced mechanic tools (OEM and specialty tools provided on-site).
Ability to pass pre-employment background check physical and drug screening.
Certifications & Preferred Skills:
OEM certifications from Freightliner Western Star Peterbilt Kenworth or Volvo (preferred).
ASE Medium-Heavy Truck certifications (T1 T8) preferred.
Familiarity with manufacturer warranty claim submission procedures.
Compensation & Benefits:
$27.02 $40.52/hour DOE flat-rate pay and annual performance reviews.
