Under general direction is responsible for planning assigning dispatching and supervising the activities of heavy equipment operators truck drivers and work crews in the repair maintenance and clean up needs of Recreation and Park Department Public Utilities Commission and Airport Commission properties; and performs related duties as assigned.
The essential duties include but are not limited to the following:
1. Plans assigns supervises and lays out the work of subordinate supervisors heavy equipment operators and work crews and may personally supervise earth moving in road path and other maintenance and repair operations
2. Responds to maintenance repair and clean-up needs of Recreation and Park Public Utilities Commission and Airport Commission.
3. Makes estimates of aggregates and other materials and supplies necessary to maintenance and repair activities.
4. Assists in the preparation of and makes recommendations for annual budget requirements.
5. Acts in advisory capacity with respect to earth-moving or construction projects under the jurisdiction of other divisions of the Recreation Park Public Utilities Commission and Airport Commission.
6. Inspects proposed work and makes recommendations on the use of heavy equipment.
7. Acts as dispatcher for drivers and vehicles.
8. Contracts scavenger service for litter pick-up.
9. Maintains liaison with contractors wishing to dump clean fill in Park Department land; plans for such disposal to be made at the most convenient locations and ensures the most advantageous utilization of such fill material.
10. Maintains records of maintenance and repair activities including projected work schedules equipment maintenance and repair materials and supplies consumed; keeps accurate inventory of equipment.
11. Recommends purchase of heavy construction equipment as well as rolling stock.
12. Confers with representatives of other units of the Department with respect to earth-moving construction and other activities pertinent to the Maintenance Division.
13. Trains subordinate personnel including the facilitation of safety meetings.
14. The 7208 Heavy Equipment Operations Supervisor will perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications :
Applicants must meet the Minimum Qualifications requirement by the final filing date unless otherwise noted.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be a Current Category 16 17 or 18 Exempt Employee or Current Temporary Provisional Employee in Class 7208 who has worked at least 2080 hours in Class 7208 with no break in service; AND
- Experience: Four years of responsible experience in the operation of a variety of heavy road equipment; OR
- Two (2) years of experience supervising the operation and/or maintenance of a variety of heavy road construction trucks and road maintenance equipment engaged in the construction and maintenance of a large underground utility system or similar system. (Automotive or mechanical maintenance of construction trucks and/or road maintenance equipment alone will not be qualifying.); AND
- License: Possession of a valid California A or California B drivers license.
Note: One year of full-time employment is equivalent to 2000 hours. (2000 hours of qualifying work experience is based on a 40-hour work week.)
