Job Description
The Department of Religious Studies at Houston Graduate School of Theology seeks a dedicated and knowledgeable Religion Professor to join our faculty in guiding the next generation of scholars and practitioners in theology and religious studies. The successful candidate will be required to teach undergraduate and graduate courses on various religious traditions their histories philosophies and social implications. This position involves engaging with students through lectures discussions and research supervision while fostering an inclusive and respectful academic environment that values diverse perspectives on religion and spirituality. Additionally the ideal candidate will contribute to the growth of the department through research scholarly publications and participation in departmental and university service. The role presents an opportunity to collaborate with colleagues across disciplines enhancing interdisciplinary studies in the areas of ethics politics and cultural representation concerning religion. Candidates must possess a strong commitment to academic excellence student mentorship and community engagement within and beyond the classroom. Requirements
- Ph.D. in Religious Studies or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
- Demonstrated expertise in one or more religious traditions and theoretical frameworks of religious studies.
- Proven track record of teaching effectiveness at the college or university level.
- Strong research background with publications in scholarly journals or equivalent venues.
- Ability to engage students from diverse backgrounds and foster an inclusive classroom environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with colleagues and students.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and scholarly engagement in religious studies.
Responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in various aspects of religious studies.
- Develop and implement innovative curriculum and instructional strategies that engage students effectively.
- Advise and mentor students on academic and career pathways within and outside of religious studies.
- Conduct original research and publish findings in peer-reviewed journals to contribute to the academic community.
- Participate in departmental meetings committees and faculty governance to promote departmental objectives.
- Collaborate with faculty and students on interdisciplinary projects and research initiatives.
- Engage in community outreach and public scholarship to promote understanding of religious issues.
