The New York City Department of Correction (DOC) is an integral part of the Citys evolving criminal justice system participating in reform initiatives and strategies aimed to move the City towards a smaller jail system without compromising public safety. The DOC is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for our employees visitors volunteers and people in our custody. Importantly safe jails enable DOC to provide people in custody with the tools and opportunities they need to successfully re-enter their communities. The DOC operates facilities and court commands across the five boroughs with more than 7500 diverse professionals and knowledgeable experts.
The DOCs Applicant Investigation Unit is responsible for the recruitment investigation and selection of candidates for the position of Correction Officer. The Applicant Investigation Unit seeks to recruit one (1) Supervisor. Under general supervision with latitude for independent initiative and judgment the Supervisor will be responsible for but not limited to the following:
- Oversee the daily activities of Investigators to ensure compliance as they relate to AIUs mission and departmental policies.
- Reviews investigative reports to ensure reliable accurate and objective vetting process for the Correction
Officer candidates.
- Review and assign case work and maintain an accurate count of subordinates caseload.
- Provide on-going case reviews and guidance to all staff in unit to ensure that all case practice requirements are met.
- Rate /evaluate job performance of subordinates.
- Monitor time and leave of subordinate staff and maintain accurate unit coverage during vacations.
- Attend conferences/meetings and transmit to staff information involved
- Meet with the Director to discuss the status of investigations along with ongoing activities and progress and issues that may require
immediate attention.
- Perform related work and special projects as needed.
Preferred Skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent research and analytical skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Firearms qualified is a plus.

Qualifications :
1. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and four years of satisfactory full-time experience in one or more of the fields of accounting auditing correction administration criminal justice administration and planning forensic science inspection investigation law enforcement personnel administration police science and security or in a major operational area of the agency in which the appointment is to be made; or
2. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college; or
3. Education and/or experience equivalent to 1 or 2 above.
