Job Summary

The Database Administrator is responsible for managing and maintaining databases that store sensitive immigration-related data. This role ensures the integrity security and performance of databases to support critical operations such as visa processing case management and compliance monitoring.

Responsibilities
  • Database Maintenance: Monitor maintain and troubleshoot databases to ensure high availability and optimal performance.
  • Data Security: Implement and enforce security measures including access controls and encryption to protect sensitive immigration data.
  • Backup & Recovery: Develop and manage backup and recovery processes to safeguard data integrity and availability.
  • Performance Optimization: Analyze and optimize database performance ensuring efficient query execution and minimal downtime.
  • System Integration: Collaborate with developers and system administrators to integrate databases with immigration software platforms and APIs.
  • Documentation: Maintain detailed documentation of database configurations processes and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Compliance: Ensure databases comply with legal and regulatory standards such as GDPR or immigration-specific data privacy laws.


Requirements

Knowledge and Experience
  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science Information Systems or a related field.
  • 3 5 years of experience in database administration preferably in industries handling sensitive data (e.g. legal government or immigration).
  • Proficiency with database technologies such as PostgreSQL Oracle or Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Familiarity with cloud database solutions like AWS RDS Azure SQL or Google Cloud Spanner.
  • Strong understanding of database security including encryption and access control.
  • Proficiency in database programming languages (e.g. SQL PL/SQL T-SQL).
  • Knowledge of data modeling schema design and normalization.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced mission-critical environment.
  • Relevant certifications to enhance qualifications include but are not limited to: o Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate o Oracle Database 19c Administrator Certified Professional o AWS Certified Database Specialty o MongoDB Certified DBA Associate
  • Fluency in both English and Kiswahili (spoken and written).
  • Previous experience in the aviation industry is a plus.
  • Tanzanian national only.
