The Team
The Experience Platforms team are responsible for guiding the development of experiences at SEEK. Within Design Systems this includes building and supporting a multi-platform design system a zero-install code-orientated design environment and a library for enhancing the predictability of text sizing and layout.
We design develop and deliver tools and platforms used by SEEK to build performant and consistent experiences for our users. We manage our own roadmap in close consultation with our customers the SEEK engineering and design community.
We define our own ways of working striving to bring a balance of passion and pragmatism to everything we do. We embrace flexible working arrangements from hybrid through to fully remote. We have a particularly strong culture of open-source development. The open-source projects our team maintains includes the Braid Design System Playroom and Capsize.
The Role
The Lead Engineer position is an entry-level people manager and senior member of our SEEK Group Engineering teams. As a Lead Engineer you will provide in-team leadership to three direct reports while also driving the delivery of software within the Design Systems team and strengthening engineering quality.
Your primary focus will still be technical being responsible for writing clean scalable testable code and in ensuring high quality development practices and standards. You will utilise your technical expertise to support and drive the evolution of the Design System and related tooling to help in continuing to meet the evolving needs of the consuming product delivery teams.
Key Accountabilities
Build
- Guide other engineers to build test deploy and maintain software from development through to production.
- Troubleshoot and manage support requests from product delivery teams through to resolution.
- Build highly scalable and performant software in alignment with existing frameworks and SEEKs technology strategy.
Execute
- Strengthen engineering discipline and team capability.
- Consistently write clean well-tested readable software using secure coding practices current patterns and tooling.
- Manage skill development of systems thinking and maintainable API design.
Support
- Grow team member functional capabilities through line management & coaching efforts.
- Lead the wellbeing of the team by fostering safety inclusivity diversity and engagement/culture.
- Lead the recruitment and onboarding of new hires.
- Act as key contributor to communities of practice at SEEK.
Qualifications :
Essential Skills and Experience
Technical
- Extensive knowledge of React HTML CSS JavaScript & TypeScript.
- Experience developing applications in accordance with accessibility guidelines including familiarity with ARIA guidelines and screen reader technologies.
- Understanding of semantic versioning and package publishing practices.
- Demonstrated experience consistently writing well-tested readable software using secure coding practices current patterns and tooling.
Leadership
- Ability to collaborate with various cross functional senior stakeholders.
- Proactively sharing knowledge and skills to help team members grow through coaching and mentoring.
- Ability to identify and connect growth opportunities for team members.
- Act as a SEEK engineering ambassador and help attract technical talent.
