1.0 FTE Term Certain Position
The District is seeking a credentialed Indigenous Resource Teacher to support K-12 learners throughout the District effective September 1 2025 to February 15 2026 or full return of the incumbent. Candidates will have an extensive understanding of Indigenous pedagogy culture and history the First Peoples Principles of Learning and Indigenous Worldviews and Perspectives. The learning context for Outdoor Education is to immerse school aged children in extended cultural outdoor learning experiences through a range of hands-on inquiry-based learning opportunities to promote intellectual and academic development as well as support social emotional and physical development.
This is a position of Special Responsibility and will be filled by competition.
Qualifications:
A minimum of 2 years teaching experience in the British Columbia public school system is preferred;
BC Teaching Certificate;
Knowledge of and experience in educational research and methodology for instructing Indigenous students particularly in Grades 8 - 12;
Ability to model proven Indigenous teaching methodologies to teachers and support staff;
Ability to provide students the opportunity to learn outdoors for significant portions of their school day up to 4 hours/day;
Ability to increase cultural knowledge and its Authentic application to the newly revised BC Curriculum;
Ability to provide cross-curricular guided inquiry experiences outdoors;
The ability to communicate and work effectively with students staff parents community partners and administration in implementing and meeting the goals of the Indigenous Enhancement Agreement particularly in the areas of school completion and graduation;
Ability to work collaboratively as a member of the district team;
Completion of university courses in any of the following areas is preferred: Experiential Learning; Outdoor Environmental Education; Environmental Stewardship;
Valid drivers license.
