Our Process Engineer works with stakeholders at all levels to establish document and on occasion build systems and processes used to maintain and modify rollingstock assets. As a subject matter expert you will work with a wide variety of roles from the shop floor to management and engineering to establish common approaches to ways of working that support Safety and consistency of quality and process repeatability.
KiwiRail sites are highly hazardous environments where safety is paramount. All employees must ensure they comply with and promote all rail safety system standards codes procedures and statutory requirements. You will be required to:
- Promote zero harm principles and practices and identify and manage non-zero harm behaviours by:
- Complying with all rail safety system standards codes procedures and statutory requirements
- Leading the team to develop a safety first culture within the RSAS business unit and constantly demonstrate this through action
- Pro-actively identifying and taking initial control of any accidents incidents safety or environmental hazards followed by reporting to your manager
- Assist teams to identify risks associated with rolling stock assets or tasks and the best ways to mitigate them
- Maintaining a proactive approach regarding both personal wellbeing as well as the wellbeing of fellow employees visitors customers contractors and members of the public
- Working with teams to design in a Safety-first approach to maintenance practices
- Developing clear process and standards that support repeatable consistent work
- Acting as the interface between shop floor and engineering where process design issues impact performance and quality of output
- Working with asset management stakeholders on the identification development documentation and implementation of process improvements that will improve asset reliability
- Providing clear and concise communication to stakeholders on top priorities being worked-on the target completion dates and corresponding benefits
- Actively lead the collaboration of stakeholders to identify and implement improvement opportunities to depot and maintenance processes
- Providing support and guidance to the depot or workshop on best-practice process methods
- Reduce maintenance costs through identifying opportunities to improve workflow processes of assets through maintenance depots
- Reduce cost associated with asset downtime through implementation and sharing of process improvements
- Review and provide proactive assessments and advice on continuous improvement opportunities in relation to the asset or maintenance depots
- Maintain and develop good working relationships with internal customers at all levels
- Communicate regularly and effectively with team members and customers to identify opportunities and develop proposals for improving quality and asset performance

Knowledge and experience
- You have experience in rolling stock asset management
- You understand BPMN process development methodology
- You have experience with SAP asset and work order management
- You have engineering maintenance experience with knowledge of processes and techniques
- You can use SharePoint architecture and applications effectively
- You can work both independently and collaboratively
- You understand the application of the Privacy Act and Public Records Act to information management

- You communicate complex technical concepts clearly
- You contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
Other Requirements
- You are prepared to travel for work.
- You hold a current and valid NZ Drivers Licence
Qualifications
You need either:
- Trade or formal qualifications in engineering or a related field or
- Equivalent relevant experience
