Job Description

Overview

Manages coordinates and monitors Orthopedic Casting Service

Responsibilities

- Establish and maintain positive relationships with patients visitors and other employees. Interacts professionally courteously and appropriately with patients visitors and other employees. Behaves in a manner consistent with maintaining and furthering a positive public perception of The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Health Center and its employees.


- Contributes to and participates in the Performance/Quality Improvement activities of the assigned department. Contribution and participation includes data collection analysis implementation of and compliance with risk management and claims activities support of and participation in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) teams consistent adherence to the specific rules and regulations of The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Health Center (a) Safety and Security Policies (b) Risk Management: Incident and Occurrence Reporting (c) Infection Control Policies and Procedures and (d) Patient and Customer Service.

- Develops and maintains orthopedic equipment and supply inventory for the practice the Emergency Department and the Hospital.


- Writes and maintains equipment and supply inventory lists for the practice the Emergency Department and the Hospital.


- Develops and implements a reference manual for ordering of equipment and supplies. Orders equipment and supplies.

Establishes written stock levels.


- Insures the timely start and completion of the Orthopedic Practice in close collaboration with the administrator (reports lateness failure to room patients in a timely manner lack of essential materials and supplies).


- Assists the administrator in the preparation of the orthopedic supply and capital budget pertinent to the practice.


- Responsible to insure the cleanliness and functionality of the orthopedic clinic.


- Maintains and improves his/her competencies and skills through participation in professional development opportunities.


- Assures that radiology reports and films are available at the time that patients are seen.

- Orders prosthesis and arranges for their proper billing.


- Training:
a. Orthopedic bed setups for hospital nursing (provides written guidelines)
b. Simple traction techniques for hospital nursing and ED personnel as needed.

c. Casting cast repair and cast removal for PAs
d. Splinting techniques for hospital and ED personnel as needed.
e. Patients self care of cast/splints/crutches/prosthesis/etc.


- Quality Assurance Conducts quarterly studies on radiology film and radiology report availability. Develops and implements a plan to improve availability and documents.


- Duties and responsibilities of an Orthopedic Cast Technician.

Qualifications

- Three (3) years experience as an Orthopedic Cast Technician


- Two (2) years supervisory experience in a Health Care Setting


- Working knowledge of basic accounting and fiscal principals

- Certified as an Orthopedic Cast Technician

- Bachelors

- Working knowledge of basic office computer systems.
