Job Overview:
The Finance Business Partner (FBP) plays a strategic role in financial planning reporting and analysis serving as a trusted advisor to the VP of Finance and to the organization. This role encompasses financial reporting variance analysis budgeting forecasting capital and asset management compliance oversight and financial modeling. The Finance Business Partner ensures accurate and timely financial information to support organizational decision-making and collaborates with operational leaders to drive financial sustainability and strategic growth.
Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting and Variance Analysis
- Prepare and review monthly quarterly and annual financial statements ensuring accuracy and alignment with organizational objectives.
- Collaborate with department leaders to interpret financial results highlight trends and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Prepare AFRC and other Board-level financial reports presenting insights in a clear and actionable manner for executive stakeholders.
- Lead organization-wide variance analysis providing actionable recommendations to improve financial performance and resource allocation.
Excellence Indicators: Timely delivery of board-ready reports (within 10 business days) supported by clear actionable analysis and strong internal stakeholder feedback.
Budgeting Forecasting and Financial Planning
- Lead the annual budget process coordinating input across all departments to ensure alignment with strategic goals and operational priorities.
- Partner with department leaders to provide financial analysis and scenario planning that informs decision-making.
- Build and maintain multi-year financial models to support long-term planning and sustainability.
- Prepare quarterly forecast updates integrating actual performance and emerging business conditions into revised projections.
Excellence Indicators: Budgets and forecasts are accurate timely aligned with strategic goals and developed through strong cross-functional collaboration.
Capital and Asset Management Reporting
- Oversee capital accounting including project tracking capitalization and fixed asset reporting.
- Monitor capital projects for adherence to timelines budgets and financial controls.
- Collaborate with capital planning operations and facilities teams to develop lifecycle strategies for infrastructure and major assets.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards for capital expenditures amortization and depreciation.
Excellence Indicators: Capital and asset reports are accurate audit-ready and aligned with project timelines and infrastructure plans.
Compliance Audit and Regulatory Oversight
- Lead preparation for external financial audits ensuring readiness of schedules reconciliations and supporting documentation.
- Serve as a liaison with auditors and regulators fostering positive and transparent relationships.
- Maintain up-to-date financial policies and procedures ensuring adherence to industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee compliance reporting (e.g. GST AGLC CRA/charity filings) ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
Excellence Indicators: All audits and regulatory filings are completed on time with no material findings supported by clear documentation and positive auditor relationships.
People Leadership
- Manage a team of three with portfolios in inventory capital and AP/GL.
- Lead change management initiatives equipping the team to adapt to evolving systems processes and organizational priorities.
- Promote a culture of ownership accountability and collaboration within the finance team.
- Establish annual SMART goals with direct reports and ensure regular feedback and progress tracking.
- Provide day-to-day coaching mentorship and performance management to foster technical growth and professional development.
Excellence Indicators: Team members are engaged high-performing and consistently meet deadlines and accuracy standards under supportive proactive leadership.
Applications Systems and Reporting
- Leverage financial systems (e.g. Business Central Excel-based models) to generate reports and dashboards that enhance decision-making.
- Ensure continuous improvement of financial processes systems and reporting capabilities.
- Analyze and present key financial metrics to leadership highlighting risks opportunities and trends.
- Collaborate with IT and other stakeholders to optimize system use and improve reporting automation.
Excellence Indicators: Reports and system outputs are accurate user-friendly and contribute to improved efficiency and stronger business decisions.

Required Qualifications:
- A university degree in Finance Accounting Business Administration or related CMA CFA or equivalent designation (or working toward completion).
- Minimum five (5) years of progressive experience in finance and accounting with a strong focus on budgeting forecasting and financial analysis.
- Minimum two (2) years of experience in people management including delegation change management mentorship and performance management.
- Minimum two (2) years of experience leading finance projects such as system implementations process improvements and compliance initiatives.
- Experience in a not-for-profit attractions environment including managing grants donations and funding sources would be considered an asset.
- Medium-level proficiency in Office 365 (Excel SharePoint OneDrive Word) and proficiency in financial and accounting software (e.g. Business Central).
- Strong understanding of ASNPO capital accounting and financial compliance requirements.
- Data-driven mindset with the ability to analyze financial data and provide strategic insights to leadership.
- Excellent customer service focus including the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization.
