Goal:
To actively engage in or assist in the teaching of preschool-age students leading them
toward the fulfillment of their potential for intellectual physical emotional and
psychological growth and maturation.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Valid Oregon teacher license acceptable to Teacher Standards and Practice Commission for position assignment in PK-5
- Satisfactorily perform the requirements of the position as described in the job description.
- Early Childhood background evident in both classroom experience and education.
- Possess the emotional and physical stamina to perform duties as required by the designated task except for temporary disability.
- Experience incorporating the perspectives of multiple communities including communitiesof color in the consideration of impacts and outcomes of a decision-making process.
Preferred Qualifications
- Spanish speaking preferred.
- Familiarity with Reggio Emilia-inspired inquiry-based approaches to early childhood education preferred.
Essential Functions:
- Maintains regular attendance and punctuality.
- Develops and maintains a classroom learning environment conducive to effectivelearning.
- Flexibly applies inquiry-based learning theory and employs a variety of instructionaltechniques and instructional media consistent with the capabilities interests andmotivations of individual students and the learning community to plan a program ofstudy that meets the needs interests and abilities of students.
- Using a variety of observation and documentation tools as provided to the programassesses the development and learning of students on a regular basis and uses thecompiled information to plan instruction and to maintain such records as required bythe Preschool Promise grant.
- Develops and maintains the classroom in accordance with Oregon ODE/ELD healthand safety requirements as well as all relevant early learning and public educationrequirements and standards.
- Works in partnership with program consultants classroom assistants and othersupport staff (ELD specialists classroom volunteers etc.) to implement inquiry approaches and to maintain a learning environment for playful inquiry and explorationsupporting all learners.
- Works collaboratively with staff families and with GCCF partner agencies as neededto support childrens learning and development. Functions of this family-focusedcollaboration include establishing and maintaining open lines of communication withstaff students and their families concerning both the physical cognitive and socialand emotional development of students; working in partnership with GCCF agenciesto support GTP enrollment; conducting developmental screenings; connectingfamilies to needed resources; planning and implementing family engagementactivities and other GCCF partnership activities designed to support children andfamilies.
- Supports the transition of children and families to kindergarten.
- Attends teaching team GSD faculty and building meetings carries out co-curricularactivities and serves on school and district committees upon request.
- Strives to achieve professional growth through an ongoing program designed tosupplement and enhance teacher ability.
- Contributes to community professional development sessions offered at GCCF and inthe GTP classroom.
- Supervises students in and out of the classroom.
- Assists in the selection of books equipment and other instructional materials.
- Assists in preparing budget and instructional material requests for inclusion in thedistrict budget.
- Carries out any other job-related duties as assigned by administrative request.
