MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Must be at least 18 years of age
2. Must have no criminal record or criminal charges pending
3. Must have a valid drivers license and reliable transportation with liability insurance
4. Must be able to speak read and write English
5. Must have or be willing to obtain First Aid/CPR certification
6. Must have a clear TB and physical examination before the first day of employment
7. Must have a high school diploma or GED
8. Must have a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or be enrolled or willing to enroll in a CDA
credential program to be completed within 2 years
9. Must have 6 months of experience working in childcare
10. Must be skilled in data entry
11. Must have computer skills Microsoft Windows environment and Office suite
B. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Have a certificate of proficiency in child care development
2. Be enrolled in a program leading to an Associate or Baccalaureate degree in Early Childhood Education
3. Be Bilingual able or willing to learn to speak read and write English and Spanish
4. Be a resident of Cameron or Willacy County
5. Be a person sensitive to the needs of the poor and disadvantaged
C. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assists the Teacher with all regular Head Start classroom-related activities and will serve temporarily as
Teacher when required
2. Assist the Teacher with home visits
3. Performs related duties within the scope of Head Start as assigned by the Head Teacher
4. Assists the Teacher in maintaining an 85% average daily attendance
5. Assists the Teacher in maintaining the assigned enrollment quota
6. Assists the Teacher in generating the assigned non-federal share (In-Kind)
7. When necessary will be expected to attend staff training through pre-service and in-service workshops
8. Supports the efforts of Head Start families in the enhancement of their childrens healthy well-being and
academic success
9. Performs any other duties assigned by the supervisor relative to program operations
10. Works on weekends holidays and/or evenings on special assigned projects and/or tasks on request
of the Executive/Head Start Director
D. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
1. Averages three hours of sitting three hours of standing and two hours of walking in a usual workday
2. Requires the employee to occasionally crawl and twist in performing duties
3. Needs to carry up to 50 pounds occasionally
4. Uses lower extremities frequently in simple/firm movement and balancing
5. Maintains head/neck continuously in flexing movements and occasionally in static position &
rotational/extension movements
6. Needs appropriate or corrected vision requires the ability to judge distance and space relationships
uses peripheral vision while eyes are fixed uses eye adjustment in doing near point work and requires
the ability to identify and distinguish colors
7. Does frequent speaking/hearing tasks with staff co-workers parents and supervisors
8. Performs work area surveys to prevent injuries or accidents
9. Exposure to indifferent outdoor weather conditions (cold heat sun rain etc.)
E. KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1. Accepts responsibility for the direction control and/or planning of job-related activities
2. Communicates and works effectively with parents community staff and immediate supervisor
3. Works on repetitive duties according to set procedures with precision and thoroughness
4. Performs a variety of duties often changing from one task to another of a different nature without loss
of efficiency or composure
5. Maintains confidentiality and avoids gossip
6. Works in stressful situations
7. Maintains equipment in good working order
